Yeah, the salt around Tkachuk is entirely because they wish they had him. It’s exactly like Brad Marchand.
Elite, and our future captain. I actually hope Giordano pulls a Conroy and hands the captaincy to Tkachuk this off-season, while Gio takes an “A” and helps Chucky grow into the role.

Scoring Winger
|
Interesting tidbit:
Last time Flames lost 3-2 at home and won 6-2 on the road, the following game was also on the road and they won by the same 6-2 score.
In that game they mostly got secondary scoring: Lucic, Rinaldo, Rieder, Jankowski!
Déjà vu all over again?

Bad situation, yes. But I don't think that hit is late.
I count three steamboats from the time Perrault touches the puck to the time Bennett makes contact. That's in slow motion. How much time is there between the touch and the hit in real time? I would love to see a different video of the hit, because when it is reviewed in slow-motion, of course the hit looks late.

Pleased as punch with Mangiapane's play. The guy has raised his game at exactly the right time.

That's fair.
Maybe I'm punchy in always hearing how dirty our players are.

Is there a real-time replay of the Bennett hit anywhere?

There's the problem. You should be counting Mississippis, but spoken with the distinct Georgia southern drawl, like Kevin Spacey in Midnight in the Garden of Evil. Done that way, Bennett delivers the hit while Perreault is putting his equipment on for the game.

Found it on Sportsnet site.
Perrault touches puck at 6:51, Bennett hits him at 6:50.
My non-expert opinion is it was a severe charley horse, as it looks to me that Bennett's right knee hits Perrault's right hamstring.

I wanted to give another shout out to Geoff Ward after last night's game. He made the right adjustments, and had the team dialled in from puck-drop. I thought he added another point to his case to be promoted as the team's F/T head coach. Ward has been impressing me in the play-in.

I get that, and I don't think it's a really bad hit, but that hit that takes out a player a foot or foot and a half from the boards is a very dangerous play. I'm not sure that Bennett could have laid up there as he was committed to the hit. Perreault didn't help the situation with the turn, but he wasn't turning to avoid contact, just trying to take the pass going the other way.
I don't like the hit, and I'd likely bitch a little bit if it was against us, but at the same time I can't really blame Bennett. I'd only bitch out of bias.

It’s much better to be labelled a “dirty” team rather than a soft team. Opponents will play us more cautiously now and not bully us around. It’s a man’s game, if you can’t take a hit then you’re in the wrong sport.

Just watching that clip with Bennett again, I still don't see the issue. The guy wasn't facing the boards when he got hit, and it wasn't late. It was definitely awkward, but I don't see anything against the rules or particularly dangerous about it. Really surprised at Burke's reaction.
