Default Flames v. Jets Game 3

See it on Sportsnet @ 445pm MT.

Keep it simple.

They are going to bounce back today. Jets didn’t look good in their win, and even though we had a sub-standard game, we were one Lucic shot away from taking a 3-2 lead in the third.

Our top line, Tkachuk and Giordano need to be better though.

This game is for the series, IMO. I can't see either of these teams battling back from being down 2-1.

Flames need to show up. I'm trying to remain optimistic that they can. It's a new day.

Goals are coming from Brodie and Rinaldo in a weird 2-1 win.

Hopefully Tkachuk gets some points. Historically, he (and his old man) have underperformed in the playoffs. Now is the time to reverse that trend line. The rest of the first PP unit needs to show up as well.

I think that the forward lines should be tweaked, as other than the few shifts of the top line, no lines have generated much of anything offensively.

Gaudreau - monahan - Lindholm
Tkachuk - backlund - Bennett
Lucic - Ryan - Dube
Reider - jankowski - Rinaldo

Bennett, yet again, is our most engaged and play driving forward this series. Give him more ice time, better linemates.

Is there time to blow up the team before the puck drops?

I laughed reading this. So many are reactionary on here. This may be the most important game for this core, oddly enough.

This one should be interesting. We are likely to see the same effort from the Jets and the question is if the Flames can raise their game. Yesterday's effort simply wasn't good enough and there's really no excuse for this team to play to the level of a team that's missing three of their top forwards. Might not be a bad time for Monahan to show that he's got at least some ability to raise his game in the playoffs as he's been quiet between Lindholm and Gaudreau.

I do wonder if flames start Rittich? Not because Talbot has been bad but it is a back to back game. Time to take Ronaldo out. I would put in Czarnick, but they will probably put in Janko.

Go flames go!!!

Connect on passes, don't bobble the puck, don't fall over.

If they do these things, we'll see a much better performance. That's how basic the problems were yesterday.

I didn't watch any post-game coverage. Any interesting commentary from Ward after the game?

Flames need to match and then elevate beyond whatever the jets are doing. Flames looked tired yesterday, were weak on the puck, and conspired with each other to make asinine passes, fall down, and take bad penalties.

The coaches need to recognize what is happening and the players need to execute the plan.

Flames 4-1 Jets.

There have already been passengers. Do not see need to add another in Jankowski. I know it was a close game but...

At this stage I would take an invisible Jankowski over a guy like Rinaldo who's not exactly the smartest player when it comes to discipline. His penalty was pretty dumb yesterday.

Get back to what worked on Saturday
Start the physical game early and establish the forecheck.
It felt like they were waiting in the neutral zone for Winnipeg to break out yesterday instead of getting in after them. I get that they're maybe trying to clog up the neutral zone to slow Winnipeg down, but Winnipeg has a relatively small d core, so the Flames need to get in, forecheck and get these guys looking over their shoulders. Force them to make mistakes.

Big game, the team really has to show up.

No excuses, time to completely bury Winnipeg.
