20 bucks is a few drinks at pub. It is nice to dream for a few hours. Dropping a grand or so, that is a yikes from me.

I ended up buying them for the last two games, realized that I could have used that money better, and didn’t pick one up today.

Now I regret it

Hope they have their server ready on Friday, it's gonna be like getting concert tickets. They might be doing $5 million in the first hour.

The fun part of this, to me, is that there is no carry over. It's not random numbers that may or may not match. Someone who bought a ticket for this is going to win.

That's fun.

Not if you don't claim it within 3 days. Then it all goes back..

It's fun to dream. A small portion of money towards the fun of a possible windfall makes sense to me. If you're spending money you don't have on a wish then that is a different story of course but I think your comment is silly.

And yes, I'm glad a charity is supported in it all.
I was with some friends in Airdrie last night for the Flames game and all of them each spent over $100 on food and drinks at Brewhouse, and they do that regularly. I spent $6 for Taco Tuesday, and now $20 on 50/50 half of which goes to charity. I feel like I'm ahead.

I know a guy whos little brother was gambling in Vegas. This was 25 years or so ago, but he won something like a hundred thousand dollars on a progressive slot. Went to collect his prize and they id'd him. Turns out he was 19 and was kicked out of the casino (with no money). That would sting, as would missing your three-day window to collect your 50/50 money.

I'd have to think that anyone who bought a ticket, especially since it was shut down six hours before game time (!) will be watching and will get there in time to collect.

Or that idiot 17 year old who won the $1.2 mil progressive jackpot in St Albert about a decade back... no good.

If I recall correctly, I think the Oilers Foundation is rated one of the best of the 7 NHL clubs in Canada. So it's good they are getting the influx of money.

And it's fun to dream for a few hours.

I'm buying right at 10:30AM on the next game day.

Yes, but you wouldn't have one in 30 million chance, you would have 60 chances

(or, one in five hundred thousand, if you're scoring at home)

I knew it wasn't going to be a popular opinion...I'm more talking about the guy who spends $1000 on tickets which is stupid

Does the 50/50 sellout banner go up this year or next?

Spending money on lotteries is a dumb investment, on a pure rational cold hard logic standpoint. You have people mired in poverty right now here that if they had put all the money they spent on lotto tix in shares of RBC instead while re investing the dividends would be in a strong financial position. If you want to put an intrinsic value on dreaming for an afternoon that’s fine but it becomes an expensive dream habit over the long haul.

And if you think I could resist snapping up 200 of theses bad boys today for that juicy payout you’d be wrong, I am definitely in it to win tonight. Doesn’t mean it wasn’t a stupid waste of money though haha.

So the Oilers foundation rated one of the best of the 7 Canadian clubs? By whom?? Sounds like the Edmonton media pumping their own tires, like they are so well known to do!! Edmonton is not one of the best at anything!!

Go Hawks go!!! Punt that pathetic organization to the curb!!

Imagine the infrastructure for that charity pre this cash injection. A few alum wives, a few dusty folks that used to work provincial govt and local business leaders that own logistics, transport, and oil field service businesses. They did ok when the budget was a few million and they were organising hospital visits, a golf tourney, a poker night and a few awareness galas.

Now their balance sheet has gotten this huge influx of cash. Watch this space... something funny is going to happen.
