yea... i got up just after 3am. it took a while to find in the sky. it's not like you look up and say "WOW!!! check out that comet!!" i'm sure it would be better if i wasn't in town, but i got these... which are still pretty cool!
When I was in Kelowna I used to drive out to Ellison to watch the Perseid meteor showers. Not sure if the sky is still dark enough out there, but maybe that would be dark enough. But that was back in the 90s, so maybe it’s a lost cause now.
I took a trip out past Balzac here and the view wasn’t much improved from what I could see from my balcony. Also need some lessons on how to use my old Canon for night photos. High ISO, 10 sec exposure?

i was thinking about driving up the connector, but honestly, i'm just not that motivated that late in the evening! ha! ha!
i got some more shots on sunday and posted them in the photo thread...
for camera settings - i was playing around with all sorts of settings. all my pics were taken using a tripod and either a remote trigger or a 10 second delayed exposure (to minimize any shake in the tripod). also things like turning off image stabilizer (not needed - you're on a tripod) and using manual focus.
if you click on the flickr link (the img_XXXX link) that is after the pics it will take you to the flickr page - just scroll down and it will show what the camera settings were.
also - i found i got better pictures between 11-midnight than i did at 3am.

The story of the 1991 Pro Set hockey card that inspired Fifty Mission Cap by The Tragically Hip.
Quote:
But what really caught my eye was the last two sentences in the story on the back of the card: Unfortunately, it was the last goal of Barilko's career. He disappeared that summer on a fishing trip, and the Leafs didn't win another Cup until 1962, the year his body was found. Those bear a striking similarly to some of the lyrics in Fifty Mission Cap — the old Tragically Hip standard. It's almost word-for-word in places. In that song, the late Hip frontman Gord Downie also sings "I stole this from a hockey card." So this is the card.
