Scoring Winger
|
A Monday Distraction - Build your best Flames roster using sudoku rules
This was a fun article from Down Goes Brown on The Athletic this morning. Build the best roster you can for your team using each of the digits 0-9 only once. You must have a goalie, 2 D and 3 F (positions not super important), and you only get credit for their talent/output during their time with the Flames.
Here’s my attempt:
Miikka Kiprusoff (34)
Gary Suter (20)
Oliver Kylington (58)
Lanny McDonald (9)
Guy Chouinard (16)
Joey Mullen (7)
I thought I had a killer combo with Kipper, Gio, Housley, Iggy and Lanny, but I still had 3 numbers left with all the single digits, so unless you know winger number 708, I’m hosed.
In any case, thought it was a creative idea and fun, and distracted me from the pile of e-mails after a week off. Hope to see some creative (and better) solutions!

You only get Jagr’s contribution from his year with the Flames though...Iggy would be waiting for him at the blue line long enough to have a dump and a coffee!

Josh Jooris (86) did more in his rookie year than what Jagr did in his single year with the Flames.
The fact that both have the initials JJ is seemingly just a coincidence though

Fun game. Especially over a morning procrastination coffee.
Best I could do:
30 Vernon
5 Gio
6 Housley
14 Fleury
28 Lindholm
79 Ferland
I actually kind of like it. Decent blend of offensive skill, defensive responsibility, and grit.

Technically, sudokus don't have zeros. I am also giving myself extra credit for having all the numbers in continuous order.

Center is a weakspot but that just makes this all the more perfect for the Flames...

Just like how you can't use the player's whole career if he only played a few games with the team, if you use a player's training camp/rookie number, you should only factor in his contributions to the team while wearing that number.

That's why I like mine. A couple 50-goal Cup winners in Roberts and Lanny, a good defensive player who can play centre in Frolik, a Norris winner and an Olympian in Giordano and Regehr, and a Vezina winner in Miikka.
