Simple really. In light of tonight's embarrassing effort, would you rather see the team rebuild completely starting with a new core centered around Tkatchuk?
Or trade a big piece or two, make a significant signing and simply retool?

Try another Kadri type trade for a centre. Trade away Monahan. I would maybe keep Gaudreau. Sign Hall. Brodies probably gone so just use his spot to grow the young guns. And find a freakin Goalie.
Get a proper goalie and centre+ a top 6 winger and were in good shape. A full blown rebuild only works if you get lucky. We can easily end up like the Sabres or Oil. I would try retooling we have a few good pieces. Our defense would need some work but i would be ok with having a weaker defense for a season to see what we have.
If Hall is not willing to come here and Monahan has no takers or we cant get another top 6 centre then idk what to do.
Just anything but having to see Monahan as our best centre again.
- no goalie
- bottom 10 centre depth
- no top pairing defencemen
- no coach
I mean...what the hell? We have a top line LW and some depth players. It is a rebuild. Either they’ll be proactive and do it right, or we’ll just do it through incompetence like last time.

Tonight was bad for sure but its one game. Tonight just confirmed for me that they need to shake up the core. Gaudreau for picks and prospects then go from there. This will give the Flames 2 firsts this draft and gets rid of the cap issues in 2 years. Helps with expansion draft too.
I'm open to moving gio too. He didn't look great this year only will go down from here but his leadership is still valuable so maybe deadline next season

No goalies
No prospects
No center depth
37 year old #1 defenseman who is no longer a #1 defenseman
Four Dmen set to walk as UFAs, including our best one
No coach
Star LW is almost certainly gone
Please tell me how you turn this into a contender with just a few moves.

What exactly is there to retool around? Outside of very few young and developing players, there's not much worth keeping. You could frame it as a retool, but overall it should function more like a rebuild.
Enough of these short sighted moves to try to rush the process. The Hamilton and Harmonic trades when Flames were still in rebuild mode completely ####ed this up. Ended up spending internal development assets (early draft picks that could've became instant impact player, or blue chip prospects), and tried to bring in players that ultimately didn't pan out, and did not address major holes within the franchise.
If this franchise is serious about actually getting to a point of sustained success, they have to be patient, and let the process take it's course, rather than rush to the finish line, and end up tripping.
Figure out the type of players that should be part of this team for the next several seasons, and build around them. Everyone else who isn't part of that vision needs to be expendable to bring in players and assets that can build to the end goal.
Also, even though it's a rebuild, get a coach that actually knows what they're doing.

I know this sucks but this is not a rebuilding team. I think some big moves need to happen (sign Hall, trade Gaudreau/Monahan for a real #1 centre and depth)
Biggest problem, as it has been since Kipper and Sutter, is we need a goalie and a coach
If they keep going to the bargain bin for those 2 positions we'll never be successful, failing to draft/develop a #1 goalie has been the Flames biggest downfall
