2020 off-season - what now?

The Flames have three options as I see it with the roster:

1. Status quo, with some tweaks
2. Re-tool, leveraging some core players in hockey trades. Perhaps a signing like Hall to enable some trades.
3. Full re-build. Trade core pieces for prospects and picks. Build around some key young players like Tkachuk, Andersson.

Off the ice, they need a proven coach. I think Treliving survives.

Clean house all management all coaching staff. Dismantle the core try avoiding a rebuild but see if a retool can happen.

They better pull out all the stops and get a real proven coach though.

There will be some serious retooling too, but not a full rebuild.

At the Minimum get a new #1C. Easier said then done but if Monahan is our best option when next season starts then i wont be watching. The Kadri trade was a decent idea we need something like that.

And get a proper coach.

Bringing in coach with a winning NHL resume must be priority number one.

Trade Gaudreau, and Monahan for the right deal. Monahan for maybe a similar value centerman, but one than can actually make carry and plays with the puck. Plus some other pieces from Gaudreau's trade(probably) to fill up the depth with a bit better quality and skill. Maybe/hopefully add a top 10 pick in one of the packages...
Sign Hall.
Hire a real head coach(Laviollete, Boudreau, Gallant etc)
to start.

Rebuilding is hard.

I think a good gm could figure out how to build on some of the existing assets.

I think Tre would makes a good assistant gm... Handling contracts and such but not making strategic hockey decisions.

Lol@ thinking the Flames will add a real HC. Can't wait to see the #### return for Gaudreau, Ward as HC, and no save Dave as starting goalie.

But I am sure Treliving will have /almost/ landed Hall or some other top player

I have my doubts the Flames will get a real head coach.
We'll go dumpster diving around for another Ward, Peters, GG.

Treliving lives another season and makes the big Hall UFA splash. Team crumbles in 2021 and we rinse and repeat.
