Ducks and Canes working on a Justin Faulk trade
Elliotte Friedman @FriedgeHNIC
Something to keep an eye on: there have been ongoing conversations between CAR and ANA about a Justin Faulk trade, but there are still details to be worked out (1/2)...
Faulk has a partial NTC — which lists the Ducks — and it is believed ANA wishes to pursue an extension. No one will comment on the likelihood of it occurring, but it has been intensely discussed

Faulk may help the Ducks in the short term, but I think any extension over 3 years will become a big liability. So I’m totally in favour of this trade, would love to see Anaheim be 2 guaranteed points for the Flames every time they play.

Please be a rental. I'd love to see the Ducks give up picks and prospects when they are possibly the worst team in the conference

The Ducks are not a financially successful franchise ( Forbes has their operating income at -$2.3M last year). They are in the position where, if they want to be in the black, they need to do well in the standings. I am not surprised they are rushing to gain form.

Ducks confuse me.
They just traded a similar, younger, offensive first RHD in Montour.
Although I thought Faulk was older than 27 since it feels like he's been around forever.

I don't see him waiving, the Duck are a long way from contending, they need to go scorched Earth rebuild.

I hope this trade includes "lottery protection" that allows for the possibility of the Ducks and Canucks giving up lottery picks in the same year

Anaheim could be on the verge of a perilous mistake

Man when did Don Waddell turn into a good GM? He's had a fantastic offseason. Maybe Eric Tulsky's influence is helping that much?

Kase would be a great return for Faulk IMO.
Carolina is doing good work and I feel like Tulsky is having a big role there since they seem to be grabbing a guys that advanced stats media really likes.

It would be more than a great return, it would be a steal. Kase is very good.

If Valimaki wasn't hurt, yeah I would. Now?...no. Trade deadline, if Andersson can work his way to top pair? Probably.

Kase fits the Hurricanes' window way more than Faulk fits the Ducks'.
Over the last two seasons, Kase has scored 58 points in 96 games. His relative Corsi rating of 6.06 leads the Ducks by a mile, as does his relative expected goals-for percentage of 7.85 (which is 9th in the NHL over the last two seasons). Furthermore, his xGA/60 ranks second-lowest on the Ducks, who would be expected to give up only 2.15 goals for every 60 minutes Kase plays.
He's a tremendous young player playing on a not-so-good team. Meanwhile, Faulk's numbers on the Hurricanes are much more pedestrian, and he's gonna be on the wrong side of the aging curve very soon.

I don’t get this team. You used to have Theodore and Montour.
