The call backs to Raimi Spider-Man in Into the Verse were great. Coffee shop scene with Doc Ock tossing the car through the window was another.

The deal between Netflix and Marvel is dead and buried, but the last result of that partnership is out today. Don't forget about Season 3 of Jessica Jones.

There is a rumor that Marvel is going to release in comic book form Sam Raimi's unfinished Spider-Man 4. Would be super cool I'd be totally down to see what he had planned before leaving the project.

If Sony didn't force Raimi to shoehorn Venom in Spiderman 3, we would have had a fun Sandman/Hobgoblin movie. Everything that sucked about 3 is because Venom was in it.

Locke, you seem to have taken being burned by bad super hero movies very personally.

Ehhhhh... in retrospect none of those movies were very good. Even Spiderman 2 doesn't hold up at this point. Franco was pretty terrible in those movies, there's really no reason to think he could have carried a film as its main villain if they hadn't stuffed extra bad guys in (which, granted, is always a recipe for failure).

You definitely have to watch them with a nostalgia lens now.

It's not a popular opinion but Raimi isn't a great director. He can't seem to get past the campiness that was his signature.

I just finished the Planet of the Apes trilogy, it's really well done and seems to have sat under the radar. The last one was fantastic. Highly recommend.

I disagree pretty strongly on this. Spiderman 2 holds up great. Rami's style was a perfect compliment to his interpretation of the Spiderman universe. In the same way that Burton's style was perfect for his interpretation of the Batman universe.

Spiderman 2 also did an excellent job of building Harry Osborne up as a villain in the background of the Dr. Octopus story. If Spiderman 3 hadn't totally ruined that, by also cramming Venom and the Sandman into the same movie, Harry Osborne's arc could have played out quite well.

Both Spiderman and Batman lack powers on any kind of cosmic level. They work best when interpreted in a down to earth and stylistic way. The challenge is pulling the style off properly. Both Rami and Burton's styles involve a significant degree of camp, but so does the source material of Spiderman and Batman.

It's up there with my favourite trilogies of all time. LOTR, Dark Knight, Back to the Future, Godfather, Indiana Jones and original Star Wars. Even some of those were tainted by going back to the well and making a bad movie.

I love all the Planet of the Apes films, (yes even the Tim Burton one) but the most recent 2 are some of the best blockbusters of the last 20 years, just amazing films.

No, just specific ones.

I do find it funny that the movie that everyone loves and is even critically acclaimed (Spiderverse) actively mocks this specific movie (because it sucked) but everyone still rushes to the defense of it.

Damn, I just realized that I still haven't seen the third one, even though I loved the first two.

I've woken up in some sort of bizzaro world, no one can seriously think Halle Berry was a better Catwoman than Pfeiffer.....right? In a recent poll 42% said Halle Berry was rated as very favorable while only 41% said Pfeiffer was very favorable and only 26% said Hathaway was very favorable.
