Default Alaska Playoffs

Aces take game one on a Meat and Onions performance. 5-1 with 40 shots on goal. Being the minor leagues the fans earned a Steak(40 shots) and Blooming Onion(5 goals) from Outback Steakhouse.

Aces goalie Gerald Coleman faced 20 shots and was visibly bored towards the end of the game. Real slow to reposition himself after the Aces made a clearing attempt. Vegas made a few attempts to disrupt him by falling into him in the crease and he gets pretty physical in there. Worst case scenario we end up with Roy in net and that is like getting your second choice of ice cream.

With 13 points earned on the 5 goals all of the production was done on the cycle. If the Aces get the puck moving the Wranglers have little chance to stop them.

I liked Ramage performance. While he didn't have the big points nights that some other guys put up, went 1A +2 on 4 shots, more importantly he wasn't involved in any of the physical stuff. He just played his game and let Vegas dig themselves in a hole.

Man, here I thought getting free timbits (and formerly a cheeseburger) for the Hitmen getting 5 goals was the greatest thing ever.

Clearly I was wrong!

That's very cool, do they have that promotion throughout the entire season up there?

Yes, they do. It's been ongoing for at least the last 7 years.

Any home game if they score 5 goals you get a coupon for free timbits when you leave.

Looks like Ramage got a pair of goals for the Aces in this game.

Aces take game 3 with a score of 5 to 1. Two short handed goals were the dagger.

Coleman got the start with the coach saying Roy will play game 4.

Is this a best of 4 series? Next win and we have the championship?

This is just the first round. 16 wins for a Kelly Cup. Interesting note, the West 7 seed Stockton swept the West 2nd seed Ontario. Ontario had completed with the overall league second best record, only a win behind taking the regular season championship from the Aces. Ontario had a scheduling conflict that gave the 7 seed the first two home games. Such is minor league hockey.

Aces play Vegas Friday with a chance to face Stockton in the next round up for grabs with a win. Stocktons Captain/tough guy had an elbowing major with a game misconduct in their last win against Ontario. I expect him to see some suspension time added tomorrow. This could, pending an Aces advancement, send Stockton to Alaska without their captain for I would expect the first two games.

There must have been a change in playoff formats. I was thinking we were going to see Stockton based on a press release from earlier in the season but it looks like we are going to be staying with the old divisional format so we will see either Idaho or Colorado.

Sorry about the confusion.

Thanks to a regular season championship, the next round opening games are secured for thursday and friday of next week. The Aces play Idaho or Colorado who are going into Idaho monday for game 6. Idaho is up the game, 3-2. Game 7 if necessary is scheduled for Tuesday.

Either way the Aces will have 5 days at home between games while the visiting/traveling team will have no more than 2 with a possibility of 1 day off.

In the other division the lower seeds both won the opening round. The Western Conference 6 and 7 seeds. Not often do you see a 6th seed securing home ice in any round of playoff sports.

Aces play the Idaho Steelheads in the second round. Idaho advanced after a game 6 that was the longest in ECHL history. The game winner was scored a few minutes into the Fourth overtime. The Steelheads get a short two day rest with travel to Alaska

You want to see parity. In the East the 5,6,7 and 8 seeds advanced. All the lower seeds. In the West, 1,4,6 and 7 advanced. Crazy.
