Lots of quantity, not sure on quality...
I'll give Picard another crack mostly to see John de Lancie as Q again.
Strange New Worlds has potential, those actors and plotline were the lone bright spot of Discovery so far.
Lower Decks I expect will continue to be great.
The rest I'll pass on, I've moved on from Discovery and Prodigy is too kid targeted.

Okay, I dont know who said 'No' but 'No' was said.
Besides Star Trek has a long and illustrious history of being free from the meddling of Producers and Studio Executives, they have historically had a very free hand with how they run their show. This is all a bald faced lie.

That was all Rick Berman's idea. The guy was responsible for first couple of seasons of DS9 before jumping ship to Voyager. He wanted to implement his vision of what he thought Gene Roddenberry Trek was, which was flawed in itself since Roddenberry wanted zero inter-crew conflicts of any kind and that every episode should "reset".
After tanking Voyager with Kazons and Chakotay, his idea to boost rating was to bring on seven of nine "a borg babe" and nerfing the Borg. Guess who came up with seven's outfit and the Enterprise decontamination room? Helps with some fan, but really not with wider audiences and doesn't add to story telling. Although, he's still better than Kurtzman and STD, at least Voyager still had the occasional brilliant episode.
You could see how much DS9 improved immediately when Ron Moore and Ira Steven Behr took over from Berman for season 3.

I didn't realize that it was Ron Moore who took over. I'm in the middle of a Battlestar Galactica rewatch.

It was Behr alone who was promoted to showrunner, and he took over after Michael Piller moved on to co-create Voyager with Berman. Ron D. Moore was added to the writing staff in the third season after finishing up TNG, and he eventually became a "co-executive producer" on the last couple seasons. DS9 also added Rene Echevarria from TNG. They basically split the TNG writers room in two, with Moore, Echevarria, Hans Beimler, Robert Hewitt Wolfe going to DS9 and Jeri Taylor, Brannon Braga and Joe Menosky following Berman and Piller to Voyager.

I am deeply concerned that we are going to see more of our favourite characters and star trek lore irreparably damaged.

I watched this and my first thought was not this sh%t again, they did it in generations, they did it in the original series, they did it in Enterprise they did it in Voyage.
Writer - "Lets do a time travel arch it'll be a new thing where the Captain goes back in time to stop "
Some dude - "Its been done"
Writer - "Sure, but we'll involve the Borg"
Some dude - "Its been done"
Writer - "We'll send them back to the late past in earth and do a fish out of water . . . "
Some dude - "Its been done"
Writer - "But Q"
Some dude - "Its been done but we can make an old man Q action figure brilliant"
Writer - "Hey we had discovery time travel, and they can whip around a sun backwards. Can you imagine a Burnham Picard team, its rating gold"
Some Dude - "I just peed myself a little"

I finally lost interest in Discovery after episode 2 of season 4. However, I am in-between shows at the moment and wondering if I should go back? Based on the IMDB ratings, I would say no. Thoughts?

If you haven't already, save yourself the time and just go watch Lower Decks instead. You'll feel much better afterwards.

Sounds like season 3 of TOS. The last gasp before it was cancelled.

Lower Decks is fantastic. Dont worry about the first few episodes of Season 1. It eventually finds its feet.
I'll also throw in 'The Orville.'
If you're a Star Trek fan that is some of the best content out there.
All Star Trek fans should have at least a base-level of self-deprecating humour and The Orville really taps into that. I love it.

Thanks for the tips. I loved Lower Decks. As someone who was an adolescent when TNG came out, I feel like I am in the key demographic for Lower Decks.
I wasn't a fan of the first few episodes of The Orville and stopped watching after the episode where they put affirmative action hire girl Wesley in charge of the ship when it was like her third day on the job. However, I gave it another chance this summer and did enjoy the rest of the first season. I started the second season, but then stopped after the alien holo smut porn episode. That is just not for me.

That one was cringey but at the same time I appreciate that they went there.
Honestly, TNG went there with the Lt. Barkley episode where he Holographically recreated the bridge crew into his own personal fantasy and DS9 was barely even 'wink, wink, nudge, nudge ' with Quark's Holosuites.
The Orville just took the idea and ran with it.
Easily one of my least favourite Orville episodes, but that was low-hanging fruit that had to be plucked.

Right! And in Voyager the Holographic Doctor gets it on with a Holographic Viking lady.

I have been watching 'The Center Seat' documentary and I highly, highly recommend it.
If you're a Star Trek fan, this is great. It shows a lot of what was happening behind the scenes as well as takes a little bit of that wry sense of humour that intrinsic to Star Trek.
All good Star Trek fans have to have a bit of a self-deprecating sense of humour about Star Trek. That element of "we know this is silly, but its fun so we'll go along with it."
You know about bottle episodes, mirror universe episodes, time travel episodes and on and on with Trek-tropes. Every show does it and its great to see the insight and opinions of the people directly involved.
I really enjoyed it.

Looks like the Abrams-verse cast is returning for a 4th movie after all.

Quote:
Paramount is planning to enter negotiations for “Star Trek” stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho and Simon Pegg to return to the Enterprise for their fourth tour of duty in the venerable sci-fi franchise.
The announcement was made by J.J. Abrams during the Paramount Investors Day Presentation on Feb. 15.
“We are thrilled to say that we are hard at work on a new ‘Star Trek’ film that will be shooting by the end of the year that will be featuring our original cast and some new characters that I think are going to be really fun and exciting and help take ‘Star Trek’ into areas that you’ve just never seen before,” Abrams said.
“We’re thrilled about this film, we have a bunch of other stories that we’re talking about that we think will be really exciting, so can’t wait for you to see what we’re cooking up. But until then, live long and prosper.”

Abrams is producing the new, as-yet-untitled film through Bad Robot, with Matt Shakman (“WandaVision”) directing from a screenplay by Josh Friedman (“Avatar 2”) and Cameron Squires (“WandaVision”) based on a earlier draft by Lindsey Beer (“Sierra Burgess Is a Loser”) and Geneva Robertson-Dworet (“Captain Marvel”).

The only writer providing much hope is Cameron Squires, who looks like wrote for Final Space. Need some actual Sci-Fi writers in there...the rest make me shudder a bit looking at what they worked on.
