After some contemplation I must issue an apology to Jiri.

I should have not written my comment with the sarcasm in full subtext requiring him to decode it. I will do better to ensure that the work is done for the reader to outlay instant recognition of the sarcasm, the kind that is interlaced with everything I’ve ever posted. Green will be my new colour of choice. I hope you’ll accept my apology.

Buium v Parekh is one that has been bothering me for months now.

I am still in camp Buium, but I could be easily swayed if there's a hint out there that he vastly prefers being state side. IMO he's just a better overall threat. + he looked like the best dman at the WJC. He's best in class with older peers and producing unreal offensive numbers in a very hard d league.

Parekh could be a great player but I dont think he has put together the same level of campaign Buium has. The championship for Buium is a great feather in the cap too.

Personally, I would still take Iginla over both of them. I am less high on Catton than others. Lindstrom I'm still waffling on.

Im right with you, especially the bolded. I still think id rather come out of this draft with one of the high-end wingers (Demidov or Iginla) or one of the 4-5 top Dmen, rather than the non-Celebrini centermen. Seems to me 2025 (and likely 2026) are the drafts the Flames will get the #1 center from. Unless the Flames win the lottery and draft Celebrini, i just don't see a number 1 center in Lindstrom, Catton or Helenius. Better to take the #1 Dman in 2024 as they will take a little longer to develop anyway.

Either way, I still really hope for a second top 15 pick in this draft, as I would love to get Iginla and one of the dmen.

Iginla + one of the top D man from this draft sets us up well. We'd still need to find the centre but I am confident we will be in the running over the next two seasons, especially if we continue to sell this off season and up to next deadline. I am hopeful.

Selling would stop after next season, and you pivot back to encouraging a full time winner. We would be less able to do that in 2026 than now, but we should be back to encouraging that mentality by then. Until then, languish.

I am the opposite. I would take all of those players over Iginla.

That's fair, opinions are all over the board in the top half of this draft.

I see five potential #1 pairing Dmen, and two (maybe three with Eiserman) 1st line wingers, and a bunch of 2nd and 3rd line centerman and I feel like i'm going to be choked we didn't draft the top line players just to make sure we got a centre (position of need for sure).

Flames should be a better bet for a top 5 pick next year. Draft the center in 2025.

So if we drop to 10th, there's a chance me miss out on our voted most desired group.

1. C Mack Celebrini
2. RW Ivan Demidov
3. D Artyom Levshunov
4. D Sam Dickinson
5. C Berkly Catton
6. D Zeev Buium
7. C Cayden Lindstrom
8. D Zayne Parekh
9. C Tij Iginla
10. ???

We miss out in catton, iginla, buium and parekh.

Would leave us with silayev, helenus, eiserman or Yakemchuk but I think this wpumd be worst case for us.

The more I look in on Helenius the more I think he's a dream pick for Conroy.

Here's why:
Slick playmaking center.
Top of the draft in terms of hockey IQ
Strong work ethic
One of the youngest in the draft (plenty of room to grow)
Deceptive shot that hits the mark more often than not.

Skating needs improvement (my argument there is look at what Danielle Fujita did for Zary and others) and that's literally his biggest flaw. And it's a pretty minor flaw all things considered.

Honestly, A skilled RHS center with the brains to use the tools he has to produce in a men's league at his age is a massive selling point.

I know some folk don't think highly of this player but I dont agree with them. If your floor is a 3rd line C at the age of 17 in your draft year, that's a good thing.

Draft pick trade question for those that follow this closely:

Is this a year where most teams will have faves inside the top 10 and will hold the pick no matter what to draft that guy with the 3rd pick or 10th pick?

Or is this a draft where prospects 5 to 10 are all viewed equally by some teams and would take a second to trade down a bit?

It's tough to call. I'd say probably not as it's not a deep draft. I think they'll work their lists and keep the picks they have.

Then again if they view a tier of players as equal, theyay go to positional need and if that need isn't there, they could trade down I guess. But I wouldn't bet on it.

Plus let’s factor his production in Ligga against men. He’s had an incredible season for a 17 year old.

I'd say you have a solid top-9 here, but it's almost guaranteed that someone else, probably even two or three others, are drafted in that range. At least one of Silayev, Helenius, Eiserman, Hage, Greentree, Jiricek, BrandseggNygard, Chernyshov, etc. will surely go before #10 overall. Most rankings have both Silayev and Eiserman in the top 10.

Pronman ranking is out. Very different. He knocks prospects down for skating as usual. Has Dickinson down at 9th, says he has low IQ and compares to hanifin. Yakemchuk is 3rd.

EDIT: auto correct turned Yakemchuk into "taken". What the.

Lindstrom at 11? If he's still there when the Flames pick they need to run to the podium.

Pronman goes (spaced out to show his tiers and brackets to show comparables which seem so random)....

1 Celebrini (crosby)

2 Levshunov (Dobson)
3 Yakemchuk (Pietrangelo)

4 Buium (Reilly)
5 Silayev (Chara)
6 Catton (Cooley)

7 Parekh (Klingberg)
8 Demidov (skinner)
9 Dickinson (hanifin)
10 Helenius (rob thomas)

11 Lindstrom (Kreider)
12 Sennecke (who?)
13 Jiricek
14 Eiserman (tippett)
15 Iginla (JJ Peterka)

20 Hage (Rakell)
