I’m not saying Scheifele won’t be back this series, but even if he was out for 6 months I doubt the Jets would say so. There is nothing to be gained by making it public right now, and at least leaving some sense of doubt that he might be back could be slightly beneficial.

Remember when Gio tore his pectoral, then took the pre game skate the next game, and even in the playoffs there was the rumble that he might be able to return. When in reality he was never really close.

So Scheifele might come back, but I doubt it, regardless of the ‘buzz’.

I should add though, I’d actually be happy for him if he did come back. Going down like that 5 minutes in to the first game just sucks.

Wouldn’t be terrible. Not much of a threat, but the depth is there on a positional need.
If we had to play 82 games with those three as our best centres, we would be drafting top-2.

Yeah, with the amount of game playing going on they're not going to rule him out officially.

You see it all the time with the Flames where any injury is 'day to day'.

In fact I doubt any team will come out with time frames while they're still playing if a guy goes down. They wouldn't want to give the other team that sense of confidence in knowing.

A game that on paper the Flames should not lose, based on historical precedent I am nervous. Hopefully they get it done and turn over a new leaf.

With just Scheiffle in the line up they have a top line that can cover up for the holes while Hellbucyk held the fort. We all know they had problems down the middle. By "exposed" all I mean is Eakins and Lowry are simply not up to it and with Scheiffle out even for a game or two this is a bigger disaster than they'd like to admit. They don't have much call up depth either.

We'll see if they stick with Wheeler at center and load Laine up there. They'll be an even less effective one line team. Barely noticed Eakins. He didn't stand out in that game at all. Wheelers still got talent but he isn't out skating anyone, especially Backlund.

BTW we've seen both Ryan and Bennett step up in the past and Lindholms a great center. Calgary can cover just fine if Monahan or Baclund went down.

Aren't you over looking Lindholm? Maybe I missed that part of the thread. He's not bad down the middle. Calgary could adjust just fine if Monahan went down.

Calgary has Lindholm and Ryan who are not currently playing top 6C roles but can and can pretty well if called upon. That's four options for the top 2 center roles.

Bennett and Dube having played center can fill in the gap in the bottom 6 from Ryan being bumped up.

Flames definitely have more ability to cover at that position.

This is all smoke and mirrors by the Jets. He is not playing again this season imo, certainly not in this series.

The Flames have a lot of versatility that it would hurt to lose one of Monahan or Backlund, but I feel like we could push through it.

The Jets have a wounded limb, and it’s time to step on their neck (figuratively of course). A dominant performance today would be huge and would put the Flames in a great spot in this best-of-five, even if Laine and/or Schiefele are able to return. Just can’t let off the gas thinking the Jets won’t push back — because they will.

GFG!

Yup. I am nervous about this one. For me, this is the test of their character - the Jets will have their backs to the wall, and they have Hellebyuck. For the Flames, they need to show the killer instinct and go get this one. I suspect it will be a blue collar, lunch bucket game.

Maurice is acting like a sleaze. If he is going to go off like that, he should connect the dots between what he is claiming Tkachuk did and the actual injury

He sounds like that idiot running the country below us. “I have a secret angle of the play that nobody else can see, but believe me, it is crystal clear... it was dirty, filthy, grotesque”

If he could use his nouns and verbs like he can use his adjectives to describe the play, then we may get somewhere.

It’s like dealing with a toddler having a tantrum. Use your words, Paul.

That’s my fault for not fully explaining. He’s our best C in my opinion, so for the exercise I was assuming he and Monahan would be out.
