Just noticed that the Oilers won't face a playoff-caliber team until Sunday vs. the Jets. Their next game is against Detroit, who will of course be on the 2nd night of a back to back where they play Calgary the night before.

Man, they really lucked out with this soft October schedule of theirs.

Honestly, the most logical reason is the NHL has been trying desperately to keep Edmonton out of the lottery race. Don't they always lead the league in games against tired teams when rested?

Oscar worthy embellishment by Jurco on the high stick penalty. Should have been two each.

Yup, absolutely. This year they play tired against rested teams 7 times and play rested vs. tired teams 13 times, good for fourth overall in the NHL. Typically they lead that category by a couple of games.

I feel like we should just start Oiler Game Day threads since the OOT just ends up being nothing but Edmonton talk when they play.

Olofsson takes an ugly hit causing his head to hit the dasher.

Rowney should be gone for boarding IMO.

Edit: Only gets 2 for boarding.

Evander Kane scored 3 goals in the 1st period tonight. 3-1 Sharks over the Canes after 20 minutes. Dougie scored yet another goal for the Canes.

Edmonton’s one power play unit is fearsome, that I will admit. The tenderness, mclotteryball, Draisaitl. Add in neal to wait for a pass. And they play all 2 min...

And you gotta take advantage of weaker teams Oilers are doing it.

Rakell now hits Dahlin dangerously into the boards. Not called, while Buffalo takes a penalty in defence.

This Ducks game is pretty good, fairly chippy.

My tinfoil hat idea that the oilers/katz paid dearly to get mcdavid, as the team was a joke and had no hope of turning the ship after the massive arena deal.

In order to avoid massive losses and the deal looking stupid, oilers magically win the mcdavid draft. Just like how the pens magically won the crosby draft when the franchise was basically ready to die off.

At this point, the only other thing the league can do is offset the schedule to try to stimulate success in barren Edmonton. B2b stats in the past few years, then this kind of opening schedule seems to be a nice coincidence.

What's that 'playing vs tired team' stat look like for the oilers this year?

It's not as favourable for the Oilers as it's been in the past....

https://mobile.twitter.com/Ineffecti...0%2Fframe.html

That said, of their first 8 games they will have played 3 tired teams.

Oh fml remenda and principe on together now. ‘So, drew, on a scale of 1 to 10, how good are the oilers? 11!? That’s what I thought!!’
Now they are raving about James neal’s awesomeness. Are flames announcers this biased? Am I just blind to it because I am a flames fan. Why am I watching this? Car wreck...

Ritchie now cheapshots Sobotka from behind putting him in a headlock and throwing him down to the ice. That prompted Sabres goalie Ulmark to jump on top. Ritchie threw a couple more cheap punches once the refs were in there.

What channel is the sabres game on? NHL package or something? Can’t find it on Shaw blue sky.
