I think we can safely assume that Trump would have already pardoned his son if he had done something wrong. Havent seen any indication that Joe Biden is considering that in this case.

I have no clue if Joe Biden is a crooked person or not. Just because he's closer to "my side", I certainly won't blindly defend him. I hope if he's guilty of something, they nail him. I hope he's not guilty of anything, because it would be depressing to find out another politician is crooked, but would it honestly be that surprising? Seems like a career that attracts egomaniacs or people looking to abuse their power for personal gain. Why else would you take that job?

Regarding your last sentence, because you truly want to serve your country and make it a better place. Some of us have honourable motives. I believe Biden does.

I think there is definitely those out there, but at the level of a national leader, the sacrifice gets massive. At least half the populous hates you. People are trying to dig up or fabricate past dirt. You have no time for your family. The stress eats at your health.

There can't be that many people in it for purely egalitarian reasons.

I've never met Joe Biden or know all of the details of his life, so I have no idea. At least to this point he hasn't be obviously in it for self gain like we've seen with Trump, Bush and to a lesser degree Trudeau.

The following can both be true - Hunter Biden is a shady character who traded in his fathers name and did lots of questionable things. Joe Biden is a decent man who never got involved with his sons dealings and is above board.

The Republicans need to connect Joe to Hunters dealings for this to matter much to me. Until then it’s just projection. It’s pretty funny though, Trump is charged with actual crimes of stuff he directly did. So far Joe is being smeared for having a shady son.

If Trump and Republicans want to play the game of whose kids are shadier and used the name, position of office and influence pedaling more - well I think we all know the answer to that one. So this is a pretty strange tactic because next time the Dems have control you can bet Jared is getting investigated and so the circus continues.

I think it's pretty naive to believe that Hunter could be peddling his fathers influence without Joe's knowledge. I mean, the whole point of influence peddling is selling access and favors. Nobody is going to send millions of dollars in bribes to Hunter if they aren't receiving value in return.
