'Chronic Myeloid Leukemia form of cancer with bone marrow' makes it seem like he won't be able recover enough to ever be able to play hockey again.

Hope I'm wrong though.

It is way too early to tell.

Chronic myeloid Leukemia is very treatable and patients can live normal lives. Boyle will likely play.

Have a friend who has been suffering from this for years. Chemotherapy becomes a treatment option at a certain point and he has still not reached that point.

Don't want to downplay it because it is a serious issue and each person reacts differently AND I'm not a doctor. But this is certainly not the worst cancer related news one could receive.

Same disease Jason Blake had(has?) and still played another 400+ games in the NHL. Here's hoping for a similar result for Boyle. #### cancer.

Never a good piece of news, but CML is not the worst diagnosis. Disease progression is well documented, and it's a target for one of our more miraculous drugs, gleevec (and its follow-ons). It has come to the point where many patients will even stop treatment.

I bet he plays again if it becomes a goal for him. Best of luck to him and his family.

Very sorry to hear this news, he was a player I wouldn't have minded in a minor role with the Flames. Good that he should still be able to play out more of his career.
