Default Lupul accusses the Leafs of being big stinky cheaters

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/j...am-says-cheat/

Quote:
offrey Lupul called out the Toronto Maple Leafs for their treatment of the winger on Sunday, saying the team cheats with the way it uses long-term injured reserve.

Lupul hasn’t played since Feb. 6, 2016, being sent off to what’s been named “Robidas Island”, where the Leafs put their unwanted contracts on LTIR for cap relief.

Leafs general manager Lou Lamoriello told media that Lupul had failed his physical at training camp on Thursday, something the 33-year-old refuted on Instagram.

In a comment to a photo he posted, he told a fan that he’s “ready… Just awaiting the call.”

When someone pointed out his failed physical, he responded: “Haha failed physical? They cheat, everyone lets them.”
The NHL needs to run their own physical on the Leafs and if its found they're cheating reduce their cap by about $10 million bucks.

I can't believe the NHLPA would be ok with this.

Points for the best thread title in a long time.

I knew this was going to be an issue at some point. Without independent examiners, how can we know what players are legitimately on LTIR or not?

This is 100% the same as the Marian Hossa situation.

This does seem to be a problem in the NHL (Hossa) but if Lupul had a legitimate complaint he would be playing. I'm sure the NHLPA would work very hard to make sure their healthy players are not being put on IR when they aren't injured.

And as a side-note...Hey Lupul, if you are healthy enough to play maybe you should start training and getting in game shape instead living the rockstar lifestyle. Phil Kessel looks in better shape for godssake.

Really it's the Rhett Warrener situation. At a certain point these guys have accumulated enough injuries that you can legitimately hold them out.

Lupul strikes me as the type of guy that would expect to play in the Top 6 with PP time right away. If he was asked to first put some time in the AHL and get in game shape he would pout.

Probably why he has deleted the original post reply.

I see the victim blaming has already begun amongst leaf nation.

Great thread title. Yeah, the NHL needs to do something to standardise and independently review LTIR. It should only be allowed in the event of a long term injury, not as a way to get out of cap hits on older banged up players who are past their prime.

Don't know if the NHLPA would complain. Lupul still gets paid and more players get to play in his place. More members for the PA?

You know it's true love when you have a tree root for a foot and she still puts up with you. And your yacht.

"Victim"

I don't know...I know nothing about Lupul. Maybe he has been training really hard this offseason hoping to come back. But judging from his Instagram it doesn't look like it.

Babcock seems like the type of coach were nothing is given. You have to earn it.

By the looks of it the guy has an amazing life. But I must have missed all of the articles about Lupul training with other NHL players this offseason getting ready for the season.

Yeah I feel the NHLPA is very selective about what they put their priorities. They didn't put up much of a fight in the Richards case seeing he still did get paid and the Kings could spend more money with the money his contract freed up. They had no issue with the Hossa farce even though it undermines player contracts. They probably look at it as Lupul still getting paid and with his spot freed up so does another player.

If the team's doctor determines that a player is unfit to play, the NHL CBA section 17.7 allows the player to seek a second opinion from their own doctor. If the player's doctor and team's doctor are unable to agree on whether the player is fit or unfit to play, another doctor (who is independent) is brought in and his/her decision is final.

I am curious if Lupul went through this process or not.

CBA section 16.7 (f) allows the commissioner to investigate any LTIR placements he believes is not being utilized properly.

Oh please, like he'd do that. Gary Bettman barely enforces anything.

its embarrassing on HF. They will never admit their team is shady. Lou is really shady too. Oh well what can you expect from a team owned by Bell and Rogers

Fun fact: Lupul was traded for Chris Pronger twice in his career.

The Leafs almost acquired Pronger in the Summer of 2006, but balked when Kevin Lowe had the audacity to ask for Matt Stajan. Another fun fact.
