Sportsbooks in Vegas have a LOT of liability if the Golden Knights make the playoffs.

“We get killed if they make the playoffs, and we close if they win the Stanley Cup,” William Hill sports book director Nick Bogdanovich said.

Wow, if this was the NBA I'd say look for an immediate dive in the standings due to poor officiating where the refs get paraded into a press conference to explain their "mistakes" after each game for "transparency"

But since it's the NHL they might be hooped.

They should make it all back on anyone who bet on the Oil to make the playoffs and and win the cup

As an early Knights supporter, I threw $100 down at 200/1 for fun. I’m sure there’s a lot of idiots like me, so ya, their liability is huge if the Knights won it all. Not that I think they would though.

Are we past the point were we can now say Vegas is a legitimate threat in the West now?

No. I think they are very well coached and I think the whole novelty of being the first group to play for a team has had them playing playoff level hockey. I also think it is unsustainable and still see them falling off greatly and missing the playoffs down the stretch. Other teams with much better rosters are going to amp their game up in the second half, they were there from day 1.

They've been a legitimate threat for a while now. The goaltending depth has been surprising. Even Lagace was able to manage .500 hockey. With MAF off IR now, and if he can play well again, MAF/Subban combo will steal a ton of games and help the team do some really serious damage. I don't doubt they'll make the playoffs at this stage, but it'll be interesting to see in a 7 game series if opponents can figure them out or not.

If the Flames meet up with them in the playoffs, I'll have to cheer for every goal, which would be weird.

I still think it is to early for them. I think they have been playing completely without any expectations. How they react when that happens and if they have another gear.

They could prove me wrong but I believe the Flames catch them and with Chicago, Anaheim, and Dallas pushing at the bottom they may be in tough.

I don't think so.

I look at the season in 4 sections: up to US Thanksgiving, then to New Year's, to the all star break, and the finish. And each section sees the intensity get higher, and games be harder to win. We tend to see most of the rookies fade as we get to the tougher stages, and the weak teams as well.

I don't get too excited about counting stats, but apparently their PDO has been insane - both because of stellar goaltending, and a crazy-high shooting percentage. Their home record is 11-2.

I don't see any of these things as sustainable. They are 10 games over .500 right now. I bet they are less than 10 games over at the end of the season.

I have to say that I was not a big believer in Gerard Gallant as a head coach but he's proven me wrong. There is simply no way that roster should be 19-9-1 a third into this season. If he gets that team into the playoffs it will be arguably the greatest regular season coaching job in the history of the NHL.

Example of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. It's quite incredible and absolutely due to coaching. We'll see how they hold up.

Weird how every time the idea that Glen Gulutzen may be struggling to get the most out of our roster is brought up it's met with a bunch of sarcastic "Oh is Glen out on the ice not scoring goals? It's the players!" comments.

I'll agree that their success isn't only talent alone...however I'd argue that a lot of their motivation is internal (personal desires to play for the city after the way the season opened, wanting to prove their doubters wrong who left them unprotected, wanting to establish themselves as a star on a new team, or simply the excitement surrounding the whole expansion team thing). Their coach no doubt plays a part in providing additional external motivation, but I'm not sure you can say that their whole success is just good systems play, coach pressing the right buttons, and motivational speeches.
