Personally, I think people are overreacting about all the kids on D. They may not look great in preseason but they'll settle in and play softer minutes in October and beyond. They'll make some mistakes which will be saved by the goalie or by Stone, and by February or March we'll reap the rewards. Right now I think what we're seeing is nerves... these guys don't want to play in Stockton and they're overthinking their individual performance rather than focusing on taking it one shift at a time. For most of them it's only their 2nd or 3rd game since summer too, not much flow. Five games into the regular season the focus will be on the team, and winning, and then we can start to judge their individual performances.
I just don't want Bartkowski near this team. He can't complete a pass - you can't be in the NHL without that skill.

He's kind of like a Frolik, just not quite as skilled.

Bartkowski will make the team but sit in the press box every night. Trying to eat popcorn, always missing his mouth

He is terrible. But tonight he was better than two others (and maybe Valimaki too).

In all seriousness I really do expect Bart to take the 7th D spot. Younger players get time in Stockton and in the 6 role for the Flames.

I disagree with those who are going easy on Lack.
I get that 4 of the goals came on the powerplay, but an 85% save percentage is very poor, no matter how you put it.
For 2 of the goals, he allowed huge and juicy rebounds. The 1st and 3rd goals were simple shots from bad angles. Should have been easy saves with some proper lateral movement.
The 5th goal was a regular slapshot from far away. Lack was screened, but it was still quite savable.
Gillies looked a lot better in his games, in almost every aspect.

Tell Bennett that Trouba says his beard makes him look gross and we won't see Trouba ever again.

So, that's why Tkachuk was unable to play in the preseason until tonight.

I didn't get a chance to watch the game (because the NHL is stupid) but I think people are over reacting. They dressed a bunch of dmen that top out as a 3rd pairing right now or pushing to be a 7 at the NHL. It really shouldn't surprise you with the result. Even the oilers dmen in the decade of futility were probably more serviceable. IMO it was by design by the coach to throw them into the fire and see how they reacted.
Regarding the trouba hit, it kind of reminds me of the unnecessary hit by Phaneuf that one preseason. The islanders had a long memory and when he was eventually traded to the east and they played they jumped him.

It's pre season it means nothing
All you are looking for is good plays and individual performances not the scoreline

Anything is leaps and bounds over Loubardius and Simmer. Those guys can make ears bleed.

His dog just died so I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt this time.
Oh and it's still preseason and he had kids underperforming in front of him.

I feel the same way, however, what bothers me is that management left a #6 spot wide open for one of the rookies to fill, but not one of them are standing out. I hope in at least one of the next 2 games one proves to us that he deserves that spot, or else we will have to face the nightmare of Bartkowski in.

If they played completely mistake free hockey they'd be competing for a top 4 spot, not the #6 role. I'm not too worried about any of the guys we saw on D tonight.

I'm worried about recurrent blatant errors that NHL defensemen should not be making. I'm talking 'Spoon and Bart

Yeah he made some great saves on breakaways and point blank shots from the slot. It's only his second game too I think. That totally sucks about his dog.
Hopefully he can build on the positives.

So Toronto pre-season games been televised how many times now? Flames game zip. Tonight's game was televised on TSN3 but it's blacked out in Alberta. That's BS!!
It looks like the Flames have been having discipline problem for the amount of the penalty killing they've been doing. I hope they clean it up in the regular season.

Monahan definitely gained a step over the offseason. He's going to have a huge year this season.

You simply fail to understand what's at stake.
