It seems pretty obvious even to a casual observer that the Flames played far better once they got Stone. They went 13-3 and clinched a playoff spot once Stone joined the team.
Just prior to Stone joining the Flames they went 8-9-2 with Gio and Hamilton being the "top 2 pairings in the league".
After the all star game with 30 games left Hamilton/Gio were great:
Gio played just under 23 minutes a game and Hamilton played 20 minutes a game.
Brodie played 23.5 minutes a game and led the Flames defense in scoring with 19 pts... and was +6
Engelland played 19 minutes a game and Stone 18.
Did the Flames have the best top-4? Gutzalan obviously thought so playing Brodie - Engelland/Stone as much as the top pairing in the league.
maybe best top-5?
They were really good as I stated in a previous post but did not carry the Flames to the same degree as Russell/Wideman in 2015.
