I think he clears waivers, gets loaned to Kladno but stays on Calgarys reserve list as the contract will remain in tact and he will return to the Flames during the stretch drive when in full health and in game shape.

Is it possible Jagr is in fact done and the Flames need the roster spot for an incoming acquisition? Maybe the two situations correlate, maybe they don't. Could be an interesting 24-48 hours. Actually it will be interesting none the less, there seems to be some confusion with the situation.

This is my hope. Then Jagr scores the series clinching goal in round one to eliminate the Sharks.

Can the flames "sell" his contract to Kladno if he clears waivers? I am assuming that even clearing waivers means he is still part of the flames cap.

Until Treliving or Jagr says he’s done here for good, I won’t close the door on anything. Maybe that comes tomorrow when he clears.
Since McKenzie has changed his tune a bit this AM, he’s getting peicies of info and making some assumptions, this really does sound as the scenario as presented by Calgaryboy’s links. Go to Kladno, help them out and get in shape, and reevaluate when things are done there in less than a month.
Coming back to Calgary for the run would be one of those options if he wants to, is injury free and in shape and has confidence, and, if the Flames want him. An extra forward is likely to be needed, so if he is pain free and in good shape, don’t see why they wouldn’t.

Jagr's cap hit is 1 mil. If any player is assigned to the minors (Europe in this case), the assigning team can get 1.05 million of cap space. So Jagr's hit will completely disappear once he clears waivers and is assigned.
Calgary will still need to pay Jagr his full salary of course but he won't count against the cap.

It is rumoured in Czech media that this is the Flames plan. Play in Kladno, then possibly come back to CGY.....We will see I guess.....

Such a pipe dream, but if he came back and played “eliminator” Gellinas 2018 that would be amazing.

I, and GG, would be thrilled if he helped them beat the Oilers twice in March, as a start.

This is my thought as well.
Either way it has been an absolute honour to have him in a Flames sweater and I don’t regret having his jersey as the first I’ve ever gotten with a name and number.
Definitely in my top 3 favourites.

I'm sure he's going to come back, folks. This is his only real way of getting decent ice time, get his fitness back to where it needs to be at, get his confidence back in a league that isn't nearly as gruelling as the NHL. He's not going to get his legs under him in the NHL.
He clearly prefers to be in the NHL, but there's a longer road back - after he got injured as the new year came in, he needed to just completely shut himself down for a month or longer just to let it heal properly. No exercise, don't move or stretch it, nothing. If it was knee/groin/both that's completely understandable.
Stepping right in, he has certainly helped this team but he hasn't done himself any favors either. Coming in without a training camp or a proper offseason workout regimen.. you can get away with it as a world class player, but he's halfway through his 40's, not his 20's. It has led to sitting out and attempting to play through worsening and nagging injuries. My ballpark guess is groin tweak and high MCL sprain. Which, at 45 is an absolute crippler.
The timing of these waivers does seem to coincide with the rumors previously about the nature of his injury and its rehab a few weeks back, which leads me to believe that he has indeed been thumb-twiddling for all of January waiting for it to heal up and that he's ready to at least step on the ice to get the reps in at a lower level league.

Are there issues if Jagr returns to the NHL later in the season?
I imagine he'd have to clear waivers again.

The lack of training camp is important, for players like Jagr its about getting that timing back and with no training camp and only playing minimal minutes its hard to get back in that groove.
Its a good question though, if he were recalled would he have to clear waivers again?

No harm in keeping the door open. But if this team is playing well with some speed and energy, I’d be reluctant to work him back into the lineup. Am I right in assuming he won’t be playing very high level hockey over there?
