I think this comes down to playoff hockey vs regular season hockey. No one can argue the rules change between the two parts of the season and the Flames were not ready for playoff hockey. The Avs slowed down Johnny with countless slashes and hooks in the playoffs that would be called more often than not in the regular season. I just hope the guys are more prepared for the speed of the Avs than they were in the playoffs because that was the real killer.
If they don't get up for this game then I'm not sure what they would get excited about. That said, if we want to talk history, the Flames aren't exactly known for their strong season openers.

The past didn't mean anything in the Honda Center either, yet 15 years. One would almost think that there's a mental aspect to sports.
So then you'd think that maybe the logical solution to that would be to stop talking about the past and dragging it into the present. I mean, is it any wonder why the Flames would collectively fold as soon as a bad thing would happen in Anaheim when the reporters would hammer them with questions about curses and records going into every one of those games?
That's why shutting out the media as much as possible in those situations is probably best for players and teams. Sadly, it's not entirely possible to.
Francis also tweeted that Kadri contemplated the decision for days.
Wonder if Kadri has any regrets? Denver wasn't a bad spot to end up but maybe he would have preferred Calgary (which is really just a better Denver)? To stay in Canada?

A fighting major for Bennett? Four minors? A game misconduct? I kind of hope he doesn't reach that milestone in one game.
Don't be such a sissy.

Calgary was on his no trade and Denver wasn't...I think he is just being politically correct. The writing was on the wall the Leafs were moving him he only had a 10 team no trade.
Also, by all accounts most or all of the Canadian teams were on his list.
Anyway #### him... hopefully Brodie and Janko have big seasons
Kadri should have asked management if that was the only deal for him. If they flat out tell him that they're going to trade him no matter what, he'd be a Flame right now.
That's all in the past now, would have loved him now I'll love to hate him. Make him pay tonight.

Yeah, but I suspect the players also do some guessing as to who might be “safe” to leave off the NTC list, whereas Calgary was a much surer bet to be adding.
