Maybe having a dad bod is a symbol you have reached a stage in your life where appearance matters less. You still care about your body and do your best to look after things but regularly hitting the gym and eating healthy takes a back seat to a new more important priority. It is a life philosophy that focuses mental and physical energy away from yourself and onto others.

So yeah go ahead and rock that dad bod and enjoy the dad bod lifestyle!

The subtlety of a dad bod is that you end up with really strong arms from carrying junior and all their stuff around. So if want a dad bod without the kid then make sure to do bicep curls regularly but no other lifting or exercise.

The answer to your question is unequivocally 'yes'.

If your question started with "Should..." then we'd have a lot more to talk about. Although I'd also say you could omit the 'without children' part of the question.

As a man in my mid-30s without children, but with a bit of a gut, yes.
I'm pretty active but have a garbage diet, so I guess depending on what CP consensus is , I could probably reign it in.

You need to have been formerly muscular to officially have a Dad Bod.

Dad bods only work for certain body types too. You need to be both somewhat tall and broad shouldered to pull off the gut. If you're not tall, you look like some kind of hobbit/dwarf creature (I speak from personal experience). If you're thin shouldered, you're going to be skinny fat.

Dicaprio is only about 5'11, but that 's probably about the shortest you could be and still pull off the dad bod.

Yes, very true. I will always be grateful for my giant chest and decent height for covering up my current state of pretty abysmal level of personal fitness.

Did you see her picture? Dicrapio is far from a dummy!

If you read that same article, Sean Penn was on the Yacht with Dicaprio and also dating an equally hot young model/actress:

Perhaps it's something else besides the dad-bods that are bringing in the ladies.

It’s not easy but I have continued to hit the gym every week for the last two decades. My weight has been 185 lbs for the last 15 years and the benefit is that I can pretty well wear out my clothing. I would like to trim down to my natural body weight but my doctor advises me there’s no reason to change my lifestyle as long as it’s working.

Yeah, I was curious what was meant by that as well.

Your doctor is basically telling you that your current level of fitness is keeping you out of the higher health risk categories, which is great considering I'd wager a sizable (heh) portion of the population is most assuredly not doing so great in that regard.

The only reason to strive for more is for yourself, if that's what you want. I have personal goals I want to hit, so -- even though my doctor has told me I'm fine where I am -- I continue to push myself to be better, which is something I personally value. You have to make that determination for yourself as to what you want to do.

On the subject of 'dadbods', everyone seems to have their own sliding scale for what qualifies as a 'dadbod' to the point that I don't think it even means anything anymore beyond a nebulous concept of presently being out of shape "but I used to be fit". Visceral fat is strongly correlated with type 2 diabetes (which my father has, thereby putting me at greater risk for getting it), so it's no bueno as far as I'm concerned.

New dad checking in. Physical activity has plummeted. Calorie intake has increased...mostly because I'm up all hours of the day, but also drinking more than during pregnancy.

A dad bod is a body optimized for the needs of most men of that age.

Younger guys have chiseled and hard features. Arguably it's the body of a god, like Hercules or something and optimized for most of the activities of the younger guy who has significantly more physical pursuits.

Dad bods are optimized differently. A soft pillow in the mid section designed for children and exhausted spouses. Padding on the body makes it less menacing and more huggable than a washboard or tree trunk. Thicker skin to deal with an influx of certain discussions that begin soon after parenting begins... Still a body of a god, but Buddha instead of Hercules.

Fun fact, Buddha isn't actually a god.

Poor wording by me. Healthy Body Mass Index (BMI) range for my height is what I meant.
