Is this the first 8 year contract the Flames have ever handed out?

Why should we be paying 800k more than CLB for Johnny though?

If you want to make a statement about yyc being a solid NHL city we shouldn't have a "western Canada tax" on our signings compared to their comparables elsewhere, no?

It's fine. It's good news. But I expected under 10.

Isn't he going to be 30 when the contract starts? People were saying (rightfully) that they were relieved that the Flames wouldn't be paying Gaudreau a huge amount when he's 35, but this contract goes even further into the future.

I also don't understand paying him now, before seeing him play and how the season goes. Makes the short term contracts to Kylington and Mangiapane even more puzzling

You can put it in the win column, Mr Treliving.

Very well done indeed.

Less than 2 weeks after the trade. A month ago Gaudreau and Tkachuk were in the fold. Treliving has done something truly special with this organization.

They technically gave it to Tkachuk.

For some reason, I thought that I’d read Huberdeau couldn’t get 8 years until he was on the team for a certain amount of time?

Would have liked it to be less than the 8 x $10.5M but would have been tough when Huberdeau knew what you offered Gaudreau and was coming off the exact same season.

Great news!

Rather pay for superstars than 4th liners and 3rd pairing dmen.

Since Tkachuk anyways. But we traded him apparently.

I’m happier by having Huberdeau for 10.5 than Johny for 10.5

He will have been on the team a year before this kicks in.

Exactly. People would have been excited a few weeks ago if Johnny got this deal and I would way rather have Huberdeau.

Flames offered Johnny 10.5. Just cause JG decided to take a paycut to play where he wants doesn't change the market value for Huberdeau.
