I would love to see huberdeau-lindholm-monahan if Monahan us healthy enough. Let him play pure sniper off wing from one of the best set up guys in the league.

There’s no purpose hedging against your enthusiasm, no one will give you credit if you’re proven right. Just yay already.

Not entirely apples to apples though. Since Johnny was UFA this year and Huberdeau UFA next year, we effectively signed a player who is one year older for the same or similar term and dollars.

Last few years might be ugly but who cares, nice signing.

Man, it will hang over his head for the rest of his career now.

Guy who basically replicated your contract year on another team is now getting the exact contract you were offered with your old team.

If the Flames see success in that time it will be salt in the wound. I don't see the Jackets doing much any time soon.

People love to act like Gaudreau is the same age as McDavid and Huberdeau is Chris Chelios

This.

We're not done yet.

With Huberdeau and Weegar only combining for a $9M cap hit this season I hope we take advantage and add a really good centre

The back end is most likely going to be rough, but they needed to get him signed. There was already too much being made about star players not wanting to sign here, if Huberdeau didn’t get signed and we had to trade him, there would be even more questions about the organization and the city.

Don’t love the signing bonuses, but that’s what it takes to sign star players.

You won't convince me otherwise that if he was in a different stage of life, he would have resigned here...even saying that, he tried a last minute hail Mary on his own, but he wasn't going to win an argument with a pregnant, 1 year wife and her family.

I think Johnny Gaudreau is a little whipped and listened to his wife. He will regret it in a couple of years..

Realistically it was unlikely that he would have signed for anything less than the Gaudreau offer that was public knowledge. I think this will age no worse than Gaudreau so I really like this deal. The last 4 years he is well over a point per game.

Big win after a couple of tough losses. Hard not to call the Tkachuk trade an absolute win as of right now

Why do people automatically think it's gonna suck in the last few years of the contract? The cap is going up the next few years, 10.5 won't seem as much, and Huberdeau is a high IQ, elite passer in the league. The kind of player that ages well.

Too much.

Huberdeau is more like a Rantanen/B Point level superstar, and people are acting like we signed a MacKinnon/Makar/Kucherov.

Gaudreau obviously ####ed up...he thought he was going elsewhere. His camp called up CBJ when things went off the rails it wasn't some master plan.

So this contract in terms of AAV is 50% higher than any contract given to any Flame ever. Crazy.

The pessimists of the Flames in a nutshell.

Before the trade:
“We will get nothing for Tkachuk, prepare to be disappointed”

After the trade:
“Yeah but they are both UFA, we lose this trade unless we sign 1 of them”

After the signing:
“Yeah but not like that”

My point was more so about getting old or being too old to be effective.
