Enroth on Sabres: ‘Only goal was finish last’
The Buffalo Sabres finished dead last in the NHL in 2014-15 with a 23-51-8 record.
According to former Sabres goaltender Jhonas Enroth, the club’s only goal this past season was to finish at the bottom of the league in an effort to land coveted top prospect Connor McDavid.
“They had only one goal…The goal was to come last,” Enroth said (via Google Translate) of the Sabres’ abysmal season.

If the NHL finds conclusive evidence that the Sabres tanked to finish last, the NHL should hand down a drastic punishment. Take away Buffalo's first round picks for 2015, 16, and 17. They need to deter teams from doing this.

And in other news, water is wet.
It is so blatantly obvious they tanked, it doesn't take a player to confirm it.

After last night, not sure I'd bet on that.

Makes me appreciate the Flames rebuild that much more. If there is any justice with the hockey gods, they will make sure that the flames will have more success then teams like Edmonton and Buffalo will in the future

Is a former player outright stating a mandate to lose not enough evidence to at least investigate?

I would go so far as to suggest the lottery be re-drawn.

I'm sure the Oilers fans would love that.
Why not though. Kill two birds with one stone.

Sounds like this is his opinion and how he felt about his time there. Its not like the GM and coach were telling them to lose, that's a bit different.

Impossible to prove, unless someone has video of the coach or GM saying "make it look good, but make sure you lose," or an email or paper trail to that effect. Icing an ugly lineup isn't proof of cheating; it can easily be covered up as incompetence. Which the Sabres also are.

I agree, that's what I said shouldn't it at least lead to an investigation.

They should have done the draw for the bottom three picks this year too.

Although that quote isn't conclusive, it should at least be impetus enough to conduct an investigation. An investigation may find a paper trial, even if written on some napkin somewhere that the mandate was to lose.

Everyone knew that the team wasn't built to compete, but that's not necessarily a requirement. Otherwise there wouldn't be rebuilding years.
The only tanking that would be, and should be in my opinion, investigated is if the players themselves were told to play less than their best or the coach was purposely losing. I don't think anything Enroth said suggested that the players were told to lose so, again, he's just saying what everyone knew.

The way the NHL is handling things nowadays, I would say Enroth will be fined $5000.

It was the same tank job in Arizona. Edmonton tried but was just inept.

Not just redrawn, but Buffalo should be removed from the lottery. Then, to make up the full set of teams for the lottery, let the playoff team with the lowest point total take Buffalo's place.

despite the oilers winning the lottery I think the new system will work just fine (drawing for the first 3 picks). I don't' think we will see as deliberate tank jobs going forward.
