Default Mobile Internet sticks / hubs

Anyone have a positive experience with a mobile internet stick or hub?

Was looking in to it and it seems like download limits are just tiny on most of the rate plans. 1 gig... 2 gigs.. 5 gigs... 10 gigs...

Are there no unlimited plans in Canada?

I've only heard negative experience from the few people I know personally who've tried them.

Anyone here use them and happy with the service?

Edit: Oops... can someone move this to the tech forum? Sorry about that.

If you expect a similar service to sitting at your house and plugging into your broadband internet, you will be disappointed.

You are paying for cell phone data, so actual unlimited data, at any price, is going to be hard to find. Wind might offer an "unlimited" plan, but I am pretty certain it still has a cap of about 5GB before they begin to throttle.

I use a sierra wireless 306 every day. (on the road) I cant comment on the pricing as my company pays for it. If youre going to get one, get a 3G one as the coverage is a lot better than a CDMA version.

This is key; why are you looking for one? If it is to replace home internet; then I think you will be disappointed. I've used our work stick a few times; and while it is OK I wouldn't want to be depending on it.

What I did was got myself a smartphone and use the data plan I have on it to tether those few times when I need access. I'm using an iPhone; mine is 3GS but I'm not sure what the tethering capabilities of the iPhone 4 are.

Wind does offer Unlimited, soft capped at 5GB before throttling. However, I have not heard of instances where throttling has started yet. The network isn't congested yet, but in the future they may start throttling.

Not very tech savvy... what's throttling?

'choking' the bandwidth basically.. just slowing it down or limiting the amount you can transmit and receive.
