I'm so confident in Bedard being next-level that I locked in a $1000 bet pre-season that he'd score 50 goals by his sophomore season.

Turns out he might do it this year.

Love Zary. Guys an absolute stud of a prospect and elite current/future support player, but Bedard is Bedard.

Zary finishing top 3 is possible, however.

A top three finalist means you simply finished top 3. The word finalist is hugely misused. Finalist implies there is still some voting to be done, there is none.

Finalist implies they have a shot in the "finals". Eg - Stanley Cup finalist. What are they finalists in if there's only one vote? Every defenceman in the league is a finalist in Norris voting.

What they are is first and second runners up.

Matty Beniers, Owen Power and Stuart Skinner were named finalists for the Calder Memorial Trophy on Wednesday
When someone says "finalist" as it relates to an NHL award its clear what they mean. The NHL knows the highest vote-getter already but to the public there are 3 finalists until the actual winner is announced.

Bedard is on pace for about 50 goals
Nobody else including Zary will have a chance

That said Zary has exceeded all expectations

One the winners are announced, they are classified as follows:

1st: winner
2nd: runner up
3rd: finalist

Until the winner is announced, all three are called finalists

Calder conversation or not, I love to see Edmonton fans eating their words on how the stole the Calgary boy in the 2020 draft.

Holloway - GP 65 - 10 points

Zary - GP 8 - 8 points

There are 32 nominees for the Masterton, in that each chapter votes for a nominee and then all PHWA members vote among those 32 nominees.

There are 3 finalists for each other award, in that they are the top three vote-getters but there's only one vote.

Anyone who's prospered after leaving the Oilers should be awarded a Masterton.

No. I'm happy that he's looking good though. It would be huge for this organization if he could round into a top 6 forward.

It's a long season and anything can happen. Saying "nobody will have a chance" in mid-November is just silly.
