Bill Peters says the group of 26 players they are taking to China will be a veteran group of "guys who are going to be on our hockey team, more often than not on our hockey team, fighting for a spot on our team"
He also says it is not closing the door on those who stay behind, but because of logistics they are only taking 26.

Boy those first couple home preseason games are going to be stinkers. Wonder how big the crowd will be knowing it'll be all farm hands/ptos. Imagine it might be pretty sparse.

Good thing Kulak didn't get claimed on waivers. Those Mandarin classes would've been a waste.

Anyone want to carpool and split the cost of gas?

I don't know who decides on the pricing for these things but in my opinion the ticket prices are way too high.
If this was an NBA or English Premier League exhibition game I could see people going to the game. They know the teams and they know the big stars. The tickets would sell out fast.
But for hockey? I doubt anyone here knows who Sidney Crosby, McDavid or Ovechkin is, let alone Gadreau or Pasternak.
If you're trying to sell the game isn't it better to have a packed arena ? I guess the NHL doesn't want a big difference between ticket prices but I'd bet the arena will be pretty empty.

It is an NHL smoozefest. It should be a well attended. Worst comes to worst, the NHL has experience in making building look full from their Arizona days. They will sit all the people across from the tv cameras so it looks full.

I would imagine that most of the tickets will be given to sponsors. The executives of those companies will sell those complimentary tickets to scalpers under the table at deeply discounted prices (say 30 cents to the dollar). The scalpers will in turn sell these tickets to make a small profit. So the street price is probably half off the listed price of the official channel, and everyone makes money (or save money)...

I am strongly considering going to the game in Shenzhen. There are some cheap fights at the moment and it is far easier than going to North American to get my Flames fix in.

Amsterdam > Calgary 7184 km
Amsterdam > Shenzhen 9262 km
Meanwhile the freaking oilers play a pre season game in Koln, Germany just 200 km from here.

This is not the first time the NHL has visited China in the pre-season. Do you know the attendance figures for the games last year? I suspect this is something the League has monitored very closely.

10,000 in Shanghai and 12,000 in Beijing.
When I watched the Shanghai game on TV it seemed like a lot of expats in the crowd.
I'm sure they'll get expats from HK to go to the Shenzhen game. I'm just saying prices seem high.

Anyone from the CP Nation going? I am booked and going. Look forward to meeting any Flames fans/CPr's. Maybe we can sit in a particular section to cheer on the boys!

I'm still kind of considering it... anyone know how long it can take to get a Chinese visa? Just so I know when my drop-dead decision date needs to be?

Awesome! Are you going to both games?
I'm going to the game in Shenzhen. I can't wait! The last time I saw the Flames live Phaneuf cost them the game with a pinch in OT.

For Shenzhen you can get a 5 day visa on arrival.
