While I agree that there is no Correlation between preseason standings and regular season outcomes. I don't believe that preseason games are entirely meaningless. I think that they are an important part of camp and getting ready for the season. Players should be taking camp seriously.
I wonder if the next CBA will change how many preseason games are in the schedule. I know that a lot of talk around the NFL is about reducing the number of preseason games. Perhaps the NHL will shave two games off to give the players more rest days during the season.

To be clear, I never said that pre-season games were meaningless, only that their outcomes are. I agree that they serve a necessary purpose, but maintain that fans often get far too invested in the final scores.

A reduction of pre-season games that coincides with shorter camps and an earlier start to the regular season would be ideal.

I'm not sure where you got those numbers from, but they're wrong.
Last October: LA was 9-2-1; Vancouver was 6-3-2; and Calgary was 6-6-0.
On November 1, the Kings were first in the Pacific and third overall. The Canucks were third in the Pacific.

Amalie Benjamin @AmalieBenjamin
In addition to Bergeron, Zdeno Chara, Noel Acciari, Torey Krug, Danton Heinen, Sean Kuraly, Anders Bjork are not going to China with the Bruins.

Heinen and Kuraly have been excused by the team after they went to China as part of the Bruins Global trip this summer. Meanwhile, Krug and Acciari are both coming off injuries and will play games in Boston. Both are expected to be ready for the beginning of the regular season, the team stated.
Last week, forward Patrice Bergeron told reporters he wouldn't be participating in the games as he continues to rehab from offseason surgery. However, like Krug and Acciari, he is expected to be in the lineup for the team's season opener against the Washington Capitals on Oct. 3.
|
Why isn't Chara going? They didn't list his reason.
Seems odd not to have one of the team's captains participating in a big international event.

Weird. It seems like all the Flames are excited to be going, but the Bruins are doing everything they can to avoid it.

As for Chara, the idea of traveling from a European time zone to East Coast time and then zipping over to China for the roughly 12-hour time difference wasn’t something he was particularly looking forward to at the start of an 82-game season. So the 6-foot-9 D-man will instead stick behind and lead the young crew expected to work under the watchful eye of assistant coach Joe Sacco while Cassidy, Jay Pandolfo and Goalie Bob Essensa all head to China with the rest of the team.
“I was asked early in May or June if I would like to go, and I said I wouldn’t mind it. But now it’s just kind of that I’m totally okay staying back. I’m not sad or upset about it,” said Chara, who seemed to pretty clearly prefer staying behind in Boston. “I’m kind of glad I’m staying back. I don’t have to deal with the travel and the different time zones. I’ve just come back from Europe, so I know the guys will be dealing with quite a few time differences when they go out there and then when they come back.
“I can always enjoy some more time being in Boston. There is plenty of time to [visit China] later on so I’m not worried about it.”

Damn, this was my last chance to see Chara live. Big fail by the Bruins.
Should we expect a Flames roster announcement soon?
