It kind of makes me think about when people are calling players crap.. let's take Gazdic for instance rather than use the whipping boy of the season.

Gazdic, in terms of "hockey speed" would likely out skill and put skate anyone on CP.

Even to get a PTO, people don't realize how good you actually need to be to be in the NHL.

When I think about that fact, I think about what Schieffle is saying here and it makes it clear that I can't even comprehend how amazing some players are in the NHL.

Has he really been playing in the league long enough to have a list like this?

^^He has played over 300 games in the NHL.

Always love reading these. Scheifele is a pretty special player in his own right, and I am sure he will eventually be on other players lists too.

This was a good read, especially the Price one, but other than Josi the list wasn't very surprising. He picked the 4 best players in the league.

Maybe I should have looked up his stats first!

This!!!

I havent read the article yet but I completely concur with your statement.

I had the opportunity a few years back to play some "commercial league" hockey and the other team had a player that was a 4th line scrub in the NHL for a cup of coffee. Sweet Jeeebus! he was far and away the best player on the ice and his talent level was better than anything I had seen before.

I think we fail to recognize that even borderline NHL'ers have amazing skill! I can only imagine what it would be like to play against the likes of a McDavid, Crosby or Gazdic!

Great read, kind of like the james neal one.

Gotta agree on the second point. I played against a 50+ former NHL cup of coffee type players who had a stanley cup ring. One of those, get him into a game for a ring kinda things. Anyway, he was older, outta shape, and literally the fastest acceleration I've ever been on the ice with. 2 strides and a pass was almost a slap shot to keep up.. The top players making someone like schifele feel the same kinda way is mind blowing.

Great read. Thrilled that Dale Hawerchuk convinced Chevy to draft him early

The last line of his article says that the WC was the most fun he's ever had playing hockey.

That's a ringing endorsement to keep the thing going and scrap the Olympic participation.

That's great and all but it's the people paying to watch the games that need to think that more than anything.

True. But I would argue that if the players are invested in the tournament, and genuinely enjoy it, it will translate into a good product on the ice.

Mark Scheifele has never played in the Olympics so how would he know it isn't as fun?

Im sure people from Edmonton think Edmonton is amazing, until they come to Calgary...
