I think he agreed to too many backroom deals and didn't get enough out of it.

The draft was designed to give the franchise a great start. Too bad it's completely botched now.

Personally I didn't like the fact that backroom deals were even allowed, much less having it screw up the draft as bad as it did.

This is where if a team and player agree, they should mutually be able to cancel or cut up a contract if he wants to bolt. He probably wants to leave and still get paid.
Apparently he lived up to his billing in preseason and was one of their best forwards. Not to mention that Vegas is only carrying 12 forwards.

The blame here is squarely on McPhee

But but but he can't put Clayton Stoner or Luca Sbisa or Griffin Reinhart on waiveres!

Yup Mcphee is screwing this up. Not sure collecting a 4th-5th round pick for a player is worth creating bad will with your #1 center.

Well they drafted to suck but have won two games already. Can't have any of that!

I took Shipachyov in my dynasty draft this summer. I'd really love it if that draft pick wasn't a waste.

Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Shipachyov's agent, Petr Svoboda says he doesn't want to go back. Denies any issue.

Agree with the sentiment GM GM was a poor choice for Vegas.

Here's a little more on the Shipachyov situation though:

Quote:
McPhee said Shipachyov and his agent were upset and didn't understand initially, but they understand now that "this is a roster move and it's not about performance." Shipachyov reported to the AHL and then flew back to Las Vegas to be with his wife because neither of them speak English and it was hard for her. He's working out on his own in Las Vegas and not expected to play in Chicago's upcoming games.

Tuch and Theodore are playing in the AHL. Playing well, in fact. Theodore is tied for the AHL lead with five points (three goals, two assists) in two games. Tuch has four points (three goals, one assists).
This is expected to be temporary for the three of them, though McPhee would not give a timetable.

"The three guys we sent down have all earned the right to be here and we'll get them here at the right time, or as soon as we can," McPhee said.

Note to future Seattle expansion GM: don't pull a McPhee and draft 12 NHL defensemen with your picks

They are in a horrible spot

It basically seems they have told the league we need to make a trade, and they are trying to give up guys that were deemed ok to leave available for expansion, so I can't imagine they have any leverage

I understand trying to build for the future, a few of the deals he made were smart imo, but there was a happy medium between taking all vets and going all futures, and he went all the way futures

Well the other element is that when he had a chance he tied the other GMs hands and made sure that they didn't do any other deals with anyone else. In the short-term that was brilliant. But those other GMs weren't quick to forget this and now that they need to do something it makes it more difficult.

I know it's in fashion to bash McPhee but once some NHL defenseman get hurt long term there will be some good deals to be made.

Its been said by others but I don't understand why he hasn't put Reinhart and Hunt on waivers. They will clear and he can bring up Shipachyov.

I thought GM would go one of two ways - ice a mediocre but competivit team that would attract fans in year one, or a team full of good prospects and a couple good exposed vets like Fleury. He did neither.

They are probably waiting for someone to offer a 1st and a 2nd for Reinhart.

Agreed with Fire. It's too early to start throwing McPhee under the bus. Yes his strategy was weird and probably not how I would have approached it, but he's in it for the long term. Just because a few guys had to start the year in the AHL, it doesn't mean his strategy didn't work, especially when the prime asset-gathering time is the trade deadline, not the beginning of the season. Most teams are set and presumably happy with what they have.

When teams are loading up for the stretch run and trying to replace key injuries, that's when McPhee can jump into action.

Wait to see where Vegas is at in June and then we can start critiquing the strategy.

Looks terrible on GMGM still, to not communicate right away to the guy why he is being sent to the AHL. He has a reputation for treating players poorly
