Default GAME 10: BATTLE OF ALBERTA - LABOUR DAY CLASSIC 2017 PART 1 of 2

Edmonton Eskimos at Calgary Stampeders
McMahon Stadium
Monday, Sept. 4
Kickoff:
1 p.m. MDT
TV: TSN, ESPN3

Another editions of Battle of Alberta - Labour Day Classics. The most anticipated CFL rivalry between the top 2 teams in the CFL. It is an afternoon affair between 7-1-1 Stamps against the 7-2 Esks, who lost 2 games in a row.
Expect a good battle for sure.

Calgary defense reigns supreme last week against the Toronto and they will need to play better against Mike Reilly and the Eskimos defense. Eskimo is expecting to see their top receiver Adarius Bowman back on LDC game. Hoping for Reilly's repeat performance against Saskatchewan last week where he threw multiple interceptions without a TD pass.

OFFENSE:

R Davaris Daniels finally had an awesome game last week against the Argonauts. Daniels who won the CFL's Most Outstanding Rookie in 2016 have been quiet in the last 7 games after starting well in the first game of the season with 4 catches for 90 yards. Last week vs Argos, he caught 8 passes for 114 yards and 2 TDs. He seems to be Mitchell's favorite last week. R Marquay McDaniel also had a good game last week with 6 catches for 84 yards. Both receivers will be count on against the Eskimos defense.

Despite the injury woes with Stamps OLine, they played well enough to give Bo Levi Mitchell lots of protections. OL Shane Bergman was supposed to play last game but couldn't, so they quickly inserted a rookie imported OLine Justin Renfrow in his place. Calgary OLine was already missing Dan Federkeil last week. The OLine only gave up a couple of QB sacks to a former U of C Dinos Graydosh.

DEFENSE:

Defense who were missing their best defensive player Charleston Hughes did not give up any points vs the Argos last week. The only Argos TD came from a 115-yards interception touchdown by Argos Cassius Vaughn in the first quarter. After that, Stamps defense shut down Ricky Ray and his offensive group. DE Ja'Gared Davis sacked Ray twice and Micah Johnson had one sack. Ricky Ray was very ineffective in the first half and he only ended up completing for 220 yards and RB Brandon Whittaker and the rest of the running game had a combined 18 yards rushng for the games. DB Brandon Smith lead the team with 7 tackles and one knockdown pass.

SPECIAL TEAM:

Roy Finch did not score a TD on his punt or kickoff return last week but he continued to be a huge threat for the opponent. It seems like every he touches the ball he wants to bring it all the way back.
Kicker Rene Paredes were 3 for 3 on the field goal attempt but he missed a convert early in the game. Noting to worry though.

************************************************** **********
In the last 10 Labour Day games, Calgary have won more games(8) over the Eskies including winning the last 5 consecutive games.

It looks like veterans DE Charleston Hughes, LB Deron Mayo, OL Spencer Wilson and OL Cam Thorn will miss the game along with DL Michael Klassen and Kashak. OL Shane Bergman practiced this week but he is game time decision. Chances are he will miss the game. Stamps will be inserting former Dinos RB Anthony Woodson, OL Dan Federkeil plus DB/LB Dexter Janke, DL Frank and Stamps 1st round pick DL Randy Colling.

GO STAMPS GO!!!!

This game is also on BT Sport 2 at 8 pm in the U.K. and ROI.

A rare chance to catch the Stamps at a sociable hour.

Serious injury problems on defense. With the way Reilly usually bounces back from a bad game (and his last was horrible) and with Bowman coming back, I have a feeling the Stamps will be in tough today. Though the D has been lights out most of the year.

Im hoping they can get the running game really going with the return of Federkeil, though the loss of Spencer Wilson really hurts that aspect as well. Daniels and McDaniel need to be at their best.

Nice to see Colling finally get some game action. Pretty big expectations for him.

Watching US Open tennis on TSN2, the ticker at the bottom of the screen says the Eskimos are playing the Riders today. That's a pretty quick turnaround for Saskatchewan

/Go Stamps Go, beat those nogoodniks from Edmonton.

Default Eskimo injury woes

I don't understand why is everyone is focusing on Eskimos injuries. What about the Stampeders?? We lost a lot of players in both offenses and defenses and nobody ever mentions it. We lost our top 2 defensive ends Charleston Hughes(several games), Cordarro Law(hasn't played yet this season), DE Ja'Gared Davis(also out for a few games), DT Junior Turner were out earlier and just came back. Our defensive leaders in LB Deron Mayo(hadn't play yet), DB Brandon Smith(came back a few games ago) and S Josh Bell(also just came back). On offense, OL Dan Federkeil, Shane Bergman(on and off the roster), Spencer Wilson(out for 6 games), R Kamar Jorden and R Lamar Durant.
Losing all or even 2/3 of these players are supposedly messed up a team but it doesn't seem to affect the Stamps. Eskimos lost two games in a row, suddenly Eskies injury woes are the reasons. These all the TSN panels were talking about.

Nice to hear there is an exposure of CFL in the UK.
Brace yourself UK, you'll definitely see a good rivalry game today.

Jock Climie hates the Stamps for some reason, it's like pulling teeth to get him to say anything positive about Calgary, yet he doesn't have any problem heaping praise on the Riders and Eskimos. Oh well, it is what it is.

I hope Tommie Campbell has a great game shutting down Adarius "Alligator arms" Bowman and shutting up Jock Climie.

Flybys are so sweet. I think we should have some F18s screaming around the city regularly. Just for fun.

I see them in Kelowna all the time.

Let's count how many times Cuthbert and Suitor mention Adarius Bowman's name while being involve in a play or not.

horse collar penalty. Only way Eskies DB can catch Daniels on that play.
