He was great in Mystery, Alaska, which I think is a hockey movie that deserves more respect.

Anyone else thought it was hilarious that Cmdr Riker directed the episode where the moral of the story is to Always listen to your XO, because he/she's usually right?

Isn't there an episode of Seinfeld where his stand up scene is him talking about Star Trek being the ultimate male fantasy - flying through space watching TV on a giant screen... Or maybe that was in one of his books. I swear I heard Seinfeld make that joke. MacFarlane is clearly a Seinfeld fan, which is probably why this show is so good.

Got my son into it last night. Still loving the show. I think one of the things that I like is that there isn't much concern with explaining how things work. How are they on a Krill ship, able to speak and read the display screens? Like TOS, not need to explain- it just works.
I know I'm in the minority, but that was something I didn't like with DS9- having to follow a story arc. I could skip a bunch of Orville episodes and just watch one without having to know what happened in the past episodes.

True enough, with DS9 and Voyager and Enterprise you basically really had to commit to the show and following it or you were lost.
With the Orville, while there is this underlying Krill threat, they haven't made it heavily episodic.
I liked the episode last night, it was a lot of fun, I liked the Krill god Avis and Gordon making fun of it with the rental car lines.
The end was the strongest part when we saw that the Krill were these zealots on a religious crusade and the Alien woman was angry over the death of her crew and she asked why Ed saved the Kids.
And he basically said, they're kids they're not the enemy, and she gave him the dead eye and told him that they will be.
I loved Isaac offering his sexual services to Alira and her uncomfortable reply.
I wasn't as strong as the last couple of weeks but it was still very good and simple.
And we finally saw a Union Cruiser.

Anyone know what the current ratings are like? I know they suffered a drop after they moved to Thursdays, and the critics hate it. It would be a shame for this show to get cancelled. I really like it so far, and it's a much more enjoyable show than the new Trek series.

I absolutely hated the first three episodes, I just didn't get them as to me they weren't funny or interesting but then all of a sudden the fourth show just clicked. I found myself laughing cause it was really funny and to me it finally felt like old school next generation Star Trek. The characters finally seemed fleshed out and they were showing great chemistry, Scott Grimes who plays the best friend and who is also the voice of Stan on American Dad is by far my favorite, he is hilarious. The Charlize Theron episode was also pretty great so I'm going to stick with this show as its a nice throw back to the Star Trek I use to watch as a kid.

The premiere had over 8 million where as the last few episodes have gotten around 3.5 million so hopefully that's enough to keep the show on the air.

It just goes to show in a way that critics have personal agenda's they blasted the show more because they don't like SM then the show itself, or they just didn't understand the concept and they were thinking it was going to be a slap stick comedy.
It would be a shame if this show was cancelled and replaced with more reality dregs or a lawyer show or something created by a guy that the critics like.

Steve, actually, but yeah...Scott Grimes has done really well on this show.

nope they replayed the opener, but I think that they have a new episode this week.
I rewatched the opener, and I loved how they did the Orville leaving the space dock with actual orchestral music and great graphics.
