Default Thoughts on the Flames extra first round pick (VAN)

Assuming it's in the high 20s, what about choosing EJ Emery?

Ranked #37 by CONSOLIDATED RANKING
Ranked #35 by ELITEPROSPECTS.COM
Ranked #39 by TSN/BOB McKENZIE
Ranked #22 by TSN/CRAIG BUTTON
Ranked #25 by THN/KENNEDY
Ranked #31 by MCKEEN'S HOCKEY
Ranked #25 by FLOHOCKEY/CHRIS PETERS
Ranked #35 by FCHOCKEY
Ranked #33 by DAILY FACEOFF
Ranked #39 by NHL CENTRAL SCOUTING (NA Skaters)
Ranked #35 by SPORTSNET/BUKALA
Ranked #44 by RECRUIT SCOUTING
Ranked #43 by DOBBERPROSPECTS

Right shot defender with size and a physical game, headed to North Dakota (which the Flames are familiar with).

Or he is he more of a second round selection?

I’d like to see the Foames draft forwards in the 1st round, at least this year. They just traded for two pretty solid young D prospects and they have a few guys on the Wranglers that might turn into decent depth pieces.

I feel their crop of forwards is severely lacking. Having said that, I’m not overly familiar with the 15-30 range of prospects this year. So take what I say with a grain of salt.

I am kinda hoping that Aron Kiviharju is there. Really big offensive upside off the blue line.

I wonder if they'd try to move up, package it with someone

I have Emery in the late first after watching him at the U-18’s.

I just hope they take a swing and avoid the safe choice.
I want a Stankoven or Hutson that drops due to size but is clearly a game breaker.
(well look at that, there is a Hutson!)

As long as it's a center or D, I'd just look at ceiling.

The fact that he is high on Todd Buttons list leads me to believe he is high on the flames list. The Button Brothers lists have shown strong correlation in the past.

I could dig that... especially if we somehow come by Lindstrom at #9.

Going into the 2nd/3rd round I'd like some of Pulkkenin, Fernstrom, Poirier, and Zetterberg.

I would hope our head scout's list has some correlation to our team's list

Going to be interesting what is going to be available down at the end of the 1st round. It's wide open after 13.

Basha, Vanacker, Mews and Parascak are players I like there.

But I suspect Basha and Parascak go before the Vancouver pick. You never know how things play out though.

I'm hoping for Basha or Parascak, I think.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Flames picked Fibigr with their late 1st, or early 2nd.

This is the pick you use for someone that falls quite a bit.

Last year Musty, Cristall, and Heidt all fell. All top prospects right now. Other teams fall in love with their lists and I want us to grab the guy that should NOT be falling.

Yeah I like the idea of using the pick on a top talent that some teams got cold feet on.

What do you mean they fall in love with their lists? If any of those guys were higher on their lists - they would have taken them.

I do agree with using that pick though on a guy with high potential. Big cut.

I don't remember the Flames doing that too often. I think Kylington was the last big swing I remember on a guy that was falling.
