I don't think anyone is hoping they squeak in. The writing is pretty much on the wall when your top center and winger are missing in action. Even if the Flames get in, is Monahan going to suddenly unleash the chains and carry this team to the promised land?

grr, I think that's a decent deal for the oilers, and definitely makes them a better team. He's a defensively liability, sure, I mean the red wings are record breaking those terms this year.

However, oilers play a pretty damn disciplined team in their systems, so I'm not that sure Tippet won't have him fitting in.

I hate when the oilers make good moves.

ya, this isn't good news of us, I think this makes them better. I also think the Green addition improves their team if he plays on the 3rd line but can help their 2nd powerplay unit.

If I were an Oiler fan I think the RFA status makes this tolerable. That said, his starting ask will be over 3M, and he will likely ask for term. The Oilers underlying cap issues are not eliviated.

Making three mill now. One year of RFA status left, he'll be looking upwards of five on a long term deal, especially if he finishes strong.
