Why? Injuries to Hamilton and Pesce now.

I love that deal for Carolina. I see it as one huge piece coming back for a bunch of lesser pieces going back.

I suppose that's true but Florida is really desperate for D

Yikes. Could have built an offer around Bennett and Janko. Weak return for a top six rh shot. Disappointed to see him move for so little. Hope reason is that tre is in on something else.

Yeah. I would've loved to see the Flames put together a similar deal. Trocheck would have been perfect...so much so that I didn't believe he would actually get traded.

I agree it makes sense, but I really doubt the owners will be okay with being sellers while in a playoff spot. I'd be absolutely shocked if the Flames waved the white flag and started selling off today due to where they are in the standings.

Luostarinen - 2nd round pick 2017, 21 y.o - 25 pts in AHL
I don't see that as being steep for Trochek who has a great 200 ft game and can score.

quantity over quality in that return; doesn't seem like much to give up for a 1B center with term

Surprised Trochek moved with FLA's position
2 Pts back and a game in-hand of the imploding Leafs... who hold #3 in the division. Seems very possible that they're in the playoffs this year
So is this spreading a bit more depth through their lineup, as Haula is by no means a bad pickup - or a GM admitting that 'making it to the playoffs' isn't the goal?

Starting to wonder if the Flames stand pat today. Trochek was the one guy I thought the Flames might swing for.

I don't get Dale Tallon. He needs a blueliner, has a pretty desirable player in Trochek, and trades him for 4 middle of the road players? Albeit i don't know the prospects.
What would the equivalent Flames players going back be?
Phillips, Gawdin, Bennett, and Yelesin?

I think the Hurricanes game up a lot of meh for a pretty good player. I don't agree with the sentiment that they overpaid.

Janko, Bennett, Ruzicka and Yelesin would be closer.
Florida lost this trade big time, Trochek far more valuable then the return.

I'd argue it is a big difference as Phillips and Gawdin are almost PPG players in the AHL and trending in a very good direction.
I'd rather give up Janko then either of those 2

I don't understand this deal for the Panthers, Trochek was the one guy they felt was expendable that could have gotten them a top four defenseman

Hate this deal. A bunch of spare parts and a lesser Haula for the motor of the Panthers, Trocheck. He had a tough recovery after his high ankle sprain last year, but he’s still a very good player at both ends. Carolina with a steal.

Godammit.
Right shot C, prime age, good contract, good at face offs, two way player.
Would have looked good in a Flames uni.

Looks like the kind of [mediocre roster player + fringe NHLer + meh prospect] for [quality difference-maker] swap that fans dream up on forums. I can't figure out how this is a win from Florida's POV.
