It's all in the past now! Glory be that is Chiarelli in cleaning Boston first, and now Edmonton of the toxins that besieged the teams, and now Edmonton has become a beacon of hard work, perseverance and the Stanley Cup shall be theirs!

Good lord, the comment section in the article... the tunnel vision, the mass amount of grammar and spelling errors, the deflection... why did I just go down that rabbit hole.

One of Staples' takeaway is " I’m no stranger to blasting the play of some Oilers. It would do us all well to try to keep our own bias and disgust in check when we comment on the Oilers and to most certainly avoid any personal comments about the players. Criticize the play, not the player. And try to be balanced. If you find you can see no good ever about a player, that’s a signal you’ve lost the plot."
Like he's overly critical of Oilers players.

For Staples to comment on that is just the height of hypocrisy. He’s too tone deaf to realize his organizational water carrying propaganda is part of the problem, not the solution.
Which is glorious in and of itself.

I like how he uses the past tense as if the "Darkness" is over.

Win a few games in a row against a cupcake schedule and that sure changed their tune in a hurry!

Please tell me someone else just saw Principe laying on the ground in front of a miniature net. That man has no shame. Do you think other journos dislike him for degrading their profession?

3 of those "Darkness" decades are over though. They just started their 4th on August 9th.

Hey! I didn't know Milton had a podcast! He must be doing better, I didn't even hear him mumble about setting a single building on fire.

Ya...that's why I said sample size
I wonder how many other Oilers coaches have achieved a 7-2-1 record over 10 games? The few that have, probably had at least twice as many 2-7-1 stretches...
Immediately achieving 15/20 pts with that team might be the most impressive accomplishment in hockey since Richard's 50 in 50...

Honestly, what's the alternative, though? If he continued to try to do the 'right thing' the only probable result was an even more uncomfortable, depressing workplace - not only would the losing continue, but everyone would hate him. Unlike most workplaces 99% of the time he's stuck in planes, buses, and locker rooms with those guys. It's not like he can just put his headphones on and process TPS reports at his desk...
Put another way, the best of his terrible options was to shut his mouth and try to lead by example, and perhaps try to make a bit of progress with the few guys who might have been at all receptive to any wisdom he had (which could well serve to move him further down the depth chart even faster, so I couldn't even fault him if he didn't want to help young D-liners improve).
If the Oilers wanted him to tell other players to be less stupid, they should have hired him as a coach. Or done ANYTHING to create an environment where his leadership might be useful.

I very much doubt that any journalist takes Gene Principe seriously. My suspicion is that he is viewed as that lovable, funny and slightly dim-witted guy who is allowed to tag along with real journalists, but is often the butt of good-natured jokes and pranks.

I just don't get the Oilers. As far as I can tell, outside of McSniffles and a couple others, it's a basement dwelling team with AHL talent. How are they winning games lately? Hitchcock isn't that good is he? 2-0 over the Avalanche so far tonight in the second period. I'm a bit stumped... That team utterly baffles me to say the least.
