Yeah I kinda got Peluso being in for Nashville, could see a case being made for St.Louis especially keeping the lineup the same after the shutout, but absolutely no reason for him to be in vs. Colorado

Anyone have strong opinions on the rookies after four games?

I think that of the three Valimaki has been the most impressive, He is an NHL defencemen by any definition.

Andersson is not an upgrade on Stone yet. But with Hamonic out another 3 or 4 weeks he will have some time to change minds. I recon that Andersson will get sent down after Hamonic returns, but I am happy the Flames have a young D man who is a reliable call up. He will likely see more than 20 NHL games.

Dube is a very interesting case, it seem like Peters has a lot of faith in him. The kid plays with pace, and forechecks very well, but I am not convinced that he will continue to centre the third line. Its hard to put into words, he is doing the right things but his execution is not quite at an NHL level yet.

Peluso has looked surprisingly competent in his 4 minutes of icetime with a couple extended forecheck shifts. However, I would argue Hathaway is capable of the exact same energy cycling shifts PLUS he'll throw a couple huge hits, will draw a couple penalties, and has the potential to do something offensively (he was a PPG player in the AHL last year before we called him up).

On the other hand... just play Janko! Kid had 17G in the NHL last year.

A Frolik - Jankowski - Hathaway 4th line wouldn’t be bad.

Is Dube a right or left shot? I wonder about giving Bennett another shot at C or letting him and Dube bounce back and forth. I just feel like Bennett looks really involved so far, of course that could be simply because he’s playing wing. Impossible to know until you try it!

David Rittich will get his first start of the season for #Flames vs.
#Avalanche tomorrow. Mikael Backlund, who missed practice, is a question mark. #CGYvsCOL

Derek Wills @Fan960Wills
#Flames May split up rookie defence pairing vs. #Avalanche, if so, would be Hanifin-Andersson and Valimaki-Stone.

Yes please. I loved the idea of trying them out together but this is the safer play. Much rather this than one of them sitting in place of Prout.

Wes Gilbertson @WesGilbertson
#Flames coach Bill Peters called it a "maintenance day" for Mikael Backlund. Says he is optimistic the second-line centre will be in lineup against Avalanche on Saturday, but doesn't sound like a sure thing.

Might just be me but Frolik is the forward that has stood out in a bad way. Only 4 games but it seems the play constantly dies on his stick, takes bad penalties, just hasn't seemed to be in sync with his linemates at all.

I'd take him out before anyone else.

Much easier playing them together at home when you can control their matchups. They got a healthy dose of welcome to the NHL vs STL.

Valimaki & Andersson: Thumbs up. Valimaki is the better of the two but they're both legitimate NHL defenders IMO.

Dube: Unsure. I believe in the kid but I think he might benefit from some AHL seasoning before becoming a full-time NHL'er..

Smith no question. Smith has been an above average starter. Elliott never has

Dube has created a scoring chance in every game hes played, which is better than many other forward options. I'd keep him up

Left, IIRC, so Bennett and Dube could easily swap places.

I actually like those pairings, there would be some speed, experience and offensive skill on each one.
