I hope they do, and I hope they understand that they're both inexperienced and give them time to work out their mistakes. Leave them both in the lineup and if things get bad, reduce their minutes but don't scratch them.

I'm all for playing both over Prout, I was just thinking It might be better of splitting them up instead of playing them together. But I'm guessing the Flames will give them "soft" minutes, so they might be fine.

Jankowksi is the 3rd best centre on the roster. It makes no sense to play 5 ft 11 190 lb rookie Dillon Dube at C ahead of a more experienced, bigger, better player.

Bennett-Jankowski-Dube - this is not hard.

Right when he signed I expected him to be the 4th line center.

Monahan, Backlund are both better and Jankowski has more potential so this is exactly where I hope he plays the majority of his contract.

Ryan is a 4th line face-off specialist in my eyes and I'm ok with that as long as he isn't over used and utilized properly.

I'm happy he's been moved off the Neal line and PP.

It just wasn't working.

Prout looked shaky on Saturday, missing pucks and not really looking like a natural, glad he looks to be out.

Hanifin needs time to develop on the PP as well so overall I approve of the majority of the moves.

The Janko thing is a whole nother ball of wax, other than him sitting (which I imagine will not be a regular occurrence) these moves are all positive.

I think Dube's speed could mesh really well with Bennett and Neal, Bennett has shown a lot of tenacity so far this season with limited minutes and i feel that being paired with Neal would motivate him even more.

As other posters have said, being in the press box might be good for Janko for one game. After that he should replace whoever underperforms in the bottom six next game.

Say what you want about Hartley but he used the press box strategically a few times over his tenure and the one thing he always got out of his teams was effort. Especially from the guys who had to sit for a game or two.

And that's the key for me. I don't want to see 6 minute ice times with the players now being deployed on the 4th line. We should be rolling 4 lines in my opinion. (I realize it might not happen every single game)

With the huge amount of power play time the Flames had the first two games it is a little more understandable to see the ice times of those players so low. I trust that won't be the case on a regular basis.

Pretty good interview on Chinese Flames TV with Bill Peters. Surprised they are choosing Cantonese as opposed to Mandarin after the China trip, but it's likely the more spoken language in Calgary at least for the next 5 years while China continues their mass immigration.

It doesn't confirm any concern about Peters. It establishes a meritocracy is all it does.

You earn your ice time. You aren't given it.

There's nothing wrong with sitting a young player to kick start him. It's not like Peters lives in some vacuum and doesn't know who Jankowski is. It's not like Treliving and Conroy aren't telling him about Jankowski's potential. If we know about Janko, Peters knows about Janko. It's funny how posters sometimes think that they have more information than coaches.

Hartley sat Gaudreau after he did nothing in his first 6 games. It didn't mean that Hartley didn't know Gaudreau's potential.

Derek Ryan hasn't been great in the preseason and first two games, but he's been better than Jankowski. He's contributed more than Jankowski; however, marginal that is. He's been effective in faceoffs and that is useful for a coach that preaches possession. That is the problem though, Jankowski should be significantly more impactful a player than Derek Fricken Ryan. It shouldn't even be close. The fact that Ryan has been more impactful and useful than Jankowski shows just how bad he's been.

Some posters are just too eager to coddle young players and ignore their poor play.

I'd love to see Jankowski be the second line centre on this team but the fact is Jankowski hasn't deserved more ice time. It's as simple as that.

Anyone else get a feeling like the roster is coming together very nicely and its just a matter of a few minor moves from firing on all cylinders?

Fair enough, put him with Bennett and Jankowksi. That's an interesting 3rd line to me. But use Jankowksi more.

It's definitely nice having offensive talent throughout the line-up. This team has alot of potential, let's just hope they find something to rally around and become even better then the parts. I'm hoping Tkachuk can become a leader that the rest of the team rallies around, maybe that's too much to hope for, but the pieces are there, now they just need to jell

I had Rittich pegged for the Colorado game, so I wonder which of the two he will start. I think I would start Smith tomorrow and have Rittich play in StL.

I've certainly liked the top line and how the #1 PP looked last game.

Gio, Brodie, Hanifin and Valimaki all look really good.

Tkachuk and Czarnik seem to have chemistry.

Just gotta work out the bottom 6 and I agree we will be a pretty strong team to deal with.

Peters making changes to two lines already strikes me as a positive point for the new coaching staff early. While I don’t agree with Jankowski potentially sitting, I only see it as a move to counter Rinaldo’s presence. I’d sooner see Frolik-Jankowski-Ryan, but I bet we’ll get there. I love the idea of Bennett-Dube-Neal, but would also be happy to see Jankowski lining up there instead of Dube.

Bennett has played well in his limited time this year, so it’s pretty cool to see him move up so quickly.

Seeing line-ups change this early, especially after a win, is incredibly refreshing.

I find it odd Janko is the odd man out. Maybe there's someting in practice the coach doesn't think he's grasping quite yet. Because from what i have seen he has been decent enough in the really limited role he's had with Bennett on that 4th line.

Then agai it's early in the season and maybe they want to see a bit of Dube at C manning his own line. Dube>Jankowski in terms of speed.

Jankowski has been pretty poor. Him sitting a game is not a bad thing. Him sitting to have Hathaway or Peluso play however, I am not so sure.

Bennett-Dube-Neal will be interesting. I know a lot wanted to see Jankowski up there but Dube has done nothing to deserve a demotion and Jankowski has done nothing to deserve a promotion. I don’t want to see any player gifted positions due to seniority. That said, taking Jankowski out of the lineup entirely is a surprise, given his excellent PK minutes. Ryan-Jankowski-Frolik would be a lot better than Hathaway or Peluso getting into the lineup. An early season scratch did wonders for Gaudreau a few years ago so hopefully it’ll light a fire under Jankowski.
