3:02 AM on May 29 is when the new charts become active, but I don't know where one would go to get them early. There's not a lot of big changes, but I don't have them in digital form (nor do I think I'm even allowed to post them at all) I took this huge picture today of a big diagram on the wall though:

Spoiler!

Delta announces service from SEA to YYC effective November 3rd, 2x daily operation with an E75.

Looks like they are starting to drop the gloves against Alaska in Seattle.

This is huge. I'm glad for YYC, but I'm not sure at what point we should start feeling bad for Alaska because they do not have the resources to win this war.

YYC-SEA-NRT now a viable routing on Delta.

We need more direct flights to Asia! Just a single direct flight to Tokyo is ridiculous!

There's not a huge demand. Beijing is in the works, that airport is so packed it's hard to get a landing slot but we'll get one eventually. Hong Kong is too far for a 767 and there's no way they would burn a precious 777 when they couldn't even fill it halfway.

Calgary's international service, compared to other North American metro areas of our size, is above average.

What are the flight times? I can't seem to find anything on this.

Considering that they are slowly replacing 763s with 788s, I would think the 788 would be a viable option to get to HKG.

Yeah a 788 can make it, but can Air Canada fill 251 seats to HKG from YYC? Nope. Double nope.

Daily, definitely not, but if they do a weekly service, or even a twice weekly service, it might be viable, I'd think.

As Acey pointed out for a city of our size we do punch above our weight for flight options and non-stops for sure.

The other thing to remember is not to listen to a single thing the Airport Authority says about the new parallel runway. Its completion will not magically bring in more heavy aircraft and non-stop destinations from all over the world. It was built because YYC has desperately needed the parallel for many years due to the configuration of our current runways. The parallel is going to make moving traffic in and out a lot easier and more efficient.

Does anyone know if there is a viewing area for the new runways? I love going to the one off McNight and watching the planes. I wish they had one on the other side off Airport Trail.

Nothing official yet, but apparently they plan to have at least one on the north end.

I still need to go driving around there and find some good spotting locations prior to the opening.

Anyone who lives near the airport might be interested in this noise abatement chart, preferential runways used (wind/weather permitting). The new runway is 17L/35R.

I think there is definitely enough traffic from YYC to HKG (and onward to SE Asia and India) support a flight, however Air Canada isn't going to offer service because HKG is a Oneworld hub rather than Star Alliance. If Westjet gets their widebody fleet up and running I think you would see YYC-HKG offered, or perhaps on Cathay.

That'd probably be the last route a WS widebody would be assigned to, as they wouldn't be configured with the necessary front cabin to support it... not to mention that the most likely WS widebody is the 767, which can't make it.

What is the flight distance between YYC and HKG anyway?
