@simonpliitle:.
Michelle Straschnitzki's son Ryan was on the Bronco's bus; she says she's spoken to him, & that he can't feel his lower body. Says family is flying from Airdrie AB to join him in Saskatoon tomorrow.

"Our minds are racing still, but we're so concerned about the kids that were on the bus, and the people that were on the bus, because they are family. It's hockey family."#https://t.co/cu8MllVsRK

God it has to be so hard being that far from your child when they have gone through something like that. Do you fly, do you risk driving in poor conditions, how can you even sleep.

The worst part about having kids is how much harder stuff like this hits you, especially as a dad with kids in hockey.

This is so terrible.

Heartbreaking tweet from the sister of Broncos Head Coach/GM Darcy Haugan.

@DebbieJayneC:
My brother didn’t make it...

Darcy has a wife and two young boys. Pray for them too tonight. And all the others who lost loved ones in this tragedy.

An Assistant Coach

@TheMikeSweeney:
Was just informed that a friend i made in 2016, Mark Cross, was killed in the Humboldt Broncos bus crash tonight. We only hung out 3-4 times, including at my friend's wedding, what a great human he was, he actually nicknamed my infamous horrible dance "The Sweeney". Rest in peace

14 dead. Donald Trump tweeted about it as well:
Just spoke to @JustinTrudeau to pay my highest respect and condolences to the families of the terrible Humboldt Team tragedy. May God be with them all!

Pleaded guilty, wow. I understand his position but when facing 16 and 13 counts respectively with the maximum punishment for the crimes are 14 years on each count of dangerous driving causing death and 10 years for each count of dangerous driving causing injury. I might be inclined to fight it.

He didn't want a trial, it sounds like to re-open wounds, I think that he also realized that he was fighting an uphill battle in going to court. What's surprising is his lawyer indicated that he didn't want a plea deal.

I'm glad this isn't going to be dragged through the courts and make things worse for an already terrible situation.

Quote:
"His position to me was, 'I just want to plead guilty,'" said lawyer Mark Brayford.

"Mr. Sidhu advised me, 'I don't want to make things any worse.'"

The lawyer went on, stating that Sidhu is devastated by the grief he's caused the families.

"He's overwhelmed by the expressions of sympathy and kindness that some of the families and players have expressed to him, in spite of the fact that their grief is entirely his fault."
