Default Why so many Leafs fans?

Serious question. Why are there so many Leafs fans in Calgary? I can't imagine they are flying in for the game, yet the Dome was stuffed with those Wendl Clark jersey wearing meatheads. Are there a bunch of Flames fans who flip allegiance for a game?

Same question re: Canadiens fans for that matter. Any insights?

Enormous numbers of Ontarians have migrated west over the decades - many keep their hockey loyalties. There is also one game a year here, so as many of them grab tickets as possible.

This is surprising?

They move out here from Ontario to make money and live a better life. The Leafs are a team that has fans that pass from generation to generation so they have fans born and raised in Alberta/BC/Sask.

A little bit. Most nights it really is wall to wall red in there, great atmosphere, and a solid fan base. I really would think that after a while, people would cheer for the home town heroes. It's gross to see so many opposition fans. And why hand on to the Leafs? Maybe Seinfeld was right, we are just loyal to clothes.

Flames fans can also sell their tickets for massive amounts of money to Leafs and Habs fans especially, who are only here once. So many fans do - I did so last year and recouped a big chunk of my season ticket share in one fell swoop.

Regular season game where Leaf fans willing to pay triple the price for a ticket, to see a team that comes once a year.

I'm not surprised season ticket owners look to games like tonight to recoup some season ticket dollars.

Well, I hope you and the other fans doing the same are at least skinning them. They need to be punished for cheering for the wrong team. Maybe we could make them watch Mats Sundin playoff highlights too.

There were only two canadian teams back in the day...these people or their parents grew up as Leaf fans. Same thing in Edmonton/Vancouver

And yeah, one game a year on a Monday night...season ticket holders looking to cash in

Serious question. Are you actually this unaware of the history of the NHL in Canada?

individual STH were enticed to make a quick buck... seemingly, not a big deal.

Turns out a lot of STH sold their tickets rather than watching one of the top games on the schedule...

individuals probably didn't consider it, but it sure looked bad to have that many leaf fans there and much, much louder than flames fans as a result.

they have every right to sell their tickets, but hopefully, next year, people think twice when the leafs are in town

Same thing will happen in Edmonton and Vancouver...and the way the game unfolded had a lot to do with how loud they were

look on the bright side, Vegas will be packed with Flames fans

Yeah wouldnt be as bad if flames fans in attendance were loud too but most nights most people cant be bothered to cheer unprompted, even with the team this year. Especially on a monday, regardless of opponent. Tonite was brutal, pretty embarrassing for fans and the team for a variety of reasons.

Ya it sucks but I honestly don't blame them. A Monday night during the cold of winter? The Flames haven't played the Leafs in forever on a Friday/Saturday. Now if it was a Saturday HNIC in Canada game, you may still get loads of Leaf fans but not to the extent of tonight.

If i spent thousands on seasons and picked games at the start of the year where I know people are going to spend whatever you ask, a Monday night vs the Leafs or a Thursday vs the Habs, I might just sell to limit the damage to the bank account.

i'm used to it, to a degree... just seemed much more than in past years... maybe the Tavares effect or something...

my brother is a STH and he said this was unusual based on his recollection...

anyways, its a free country...just disappointing to see.

Baby boomers suck. Always complaining about Millennials not working hard and eating too much avocado while forgetting most of their wealth is the result of being lucky enough to be alive when a house cost $30k.

Good on you Flames season ticket holders for gouging boomers on Leafs tickets just like they gouge millennials for rent. It's only one game a year.

Nenshi should deport them all and their Justin Bieber paraphernalia, then make them pay for a great wall to keep these loathesome eastern fans out of our lands. Edmonton will of course pay for their own great wall north of Castle Red (Deer).
