Default Purdue Pharma exploring bankruptcy

https://twitter.com/user/status/bankruptcy

This is a big story as Purdue faces massive lawsuits over Oxycotin.

Quote:
OxyContin maker Purdue Pharma is exploring filing for bankruptcy to address potentially significant liabilities from thousands of lawsuits alleging the drug manufacturer contributed to the deadly opioid crisis sweeping the United States, people familiar with the matter said on Monday.

The deliberations show how Purdue and its wealthy owners, the Sackler family, are under pressure to respond to mounting litigation accusing the pharmaceutical company of misleading doctors and patients about risks associated with prolonged use of its prescription opioids.

I generally don't pile on the US as is so popular to do, but only in the US do they throw people in jail 20 years for minuscule amount of illegal drugs and prescribe Oxy by the truckload.

By declaring bankruptcy, all of the ongoing litigation halts and essentially no new litigation can be filed, thereby effectively allowing those who profited to keep (most of) the profits and potentially avoid being held responsible for their actions, while simultaneously keeping those who were harmed from seeking any recompense.

According to Wikipedia they make all the fun drugs. They have estimated revenue of $3,000,000,000. It has to be hard to make payroll on that.....

Scum should be forced to ingest their own product, nothing more than El Chapo in a suit and tie

Why didn't the FDA do something about this 5 years ago. This has been a huge issue and problem for a long time.

They're just going to be the fall guys for the opiod crisis, it won't be much of a punishment once it all plays out and no one else will get in trouble. The conspiracy theorist in me thinks this goes pretty high up, that or it's just an amazing coincidence that the US opioid crisis started right after the US military gained control of Afghani poppy fields

I have a hard time believing they are going to declare bankruptcy, seeing as they are now in the business of treatment drugs
