Sounds like he really wants to use that pick.
JT Miller...?

Steinberg did say yesterday that Rutherford and Allvin have no problem with trading Miller to a division rival if that's what gets them the best return.

Can't even imagine it happening now but that would be insane.

Yeah the Kadri family has pretty tight lips.

Meanwhile the pseudo insiders all assumed that deal was done with the islanders because no news on Kadri and that is how Lou operates

If the Flames added Miller after everything else, that would be a hell of a forward group. I sincerely doubt that happens, but it would make the Flames a pretty impressive team up front.

Get out of here with that nonsense.

You can't say anything nice about Eric Francis around these parts.

It's hate or silence.

In a trade at the deadline.

Half kidding. If this team is in the mix, no way they are not adding. Win now.

So if Lucic can be moved…then it’s not impossible

Maybe the conversation went like this:

Francis: "Hey Murray, it's Eric. Any update on the Kadri deal?"
N.M. Edwards: "What? Who the hell gave you this number?"

Miller doesn’t have a great reputation in the locker room. Plus, we wouldn’t trade for him unless he was going to extend with us and that makes our top 6 kind of pushing the age limit.

For me, it would have been Kadri or Miller, not both.

I wouldn't be surprised if Lou was leading him on hoping to drag it out long enough that the Flames and any other team interested would just move on and Kadri would have to sign with the Islanders at a discount.

I suspect there was something going on with the Islanders. It may not have been as close as some people were saying, but I have a hunch they are a big reason why Kadri didn't make a decision right away.

I'm sure another reason is that he wanted to give Colorado as much time as possible to figure out a way to re-sign him.

If we get Miller we move into top 3 or 4 cup favorites.

Not sure how he’d pull that off without sending a top dman the other way.

We just dont need miller. We have three top 6 centres. Miller will be extremely costly, especially from a division rival, and we wouldnt be able to resign him.

Focus on a RHS RW. Preferably someone with Speed. IMO:

Huberdeau-Lindholm- Speedy RW
Mangiapane-Kadri-Toffoli

Is an absolutely dynamite top 6.

Dube, Valimaki, Prospects/picks are the pieces to try and use.

Lots of people have suggested targeting Konecny. I love this but havent heard any rumors about Philly being ready to move on.

I don't think Miller is the answer either (and I don't see any way we could acquire him without losing a key piece the other way)

If we were targeting someone from the Canucks, I would go after Garland - fast, greasy, and can score.

Mangiapane - Kadri - Garland would be an incredible 2nd line

Mangiapane - Kadri - Garland
Dube - Backlund - Coleman

would be as solid a middle 6 as any team can boast

Eberle for Lucic straight up. Cap hit for cap hit, sorta local boy for sorta local boy, super low cash for medium cash, 1 year contract for 2 year.

Eberle is interesting, but straight up for Lucic? Why would Seattle do that? Eberle is still decently productive and Seattle isn't exactly bursting at the seams with offense.

Seattle isn't competing any time soon so who cares about production? Lucic costs so little in terms of actual cash, he's a semi-local boy and would be a fan favorite as opposed to the bland Eberle. To the extent they want to start playing kids, they need a tough guy to protect them.

If it took a mid-level pick to make it happen, fine.
