Monahan bouncing back to being a 20 goal guy would be huge for this team.

That seems incredibly unlikely that we would trade Backlund, pick up Kadri and not use him as a centre.

Yes, but we make these statements before every season now.
Hopefully it's possible, but it can't be the plan. Any production that comes from Monahan needs to be a lucky bonus, not the plan.

After watching last season I’m shocked to see so many projected lineups with Toffoli over Mangiapane for 1st line duty. Toffoli was SLOW and inconsistent, while Mangiapane continues to get better with every promotion in his role.

Pelletier - Backlund - Coleman (Wear down the opposition)
Dube - Monahan - Toffoli (Toffoli comes to camp in better shape, Monny rebound)
Lucic - Ruzicka - Phillips (emergency subs for all three higher lines)
Rooney, Lewis (fourth line injury replacements)

Roll all three pairings equally. Mackey stays up for replacement.
Yup
I see Mangiapane, Dube, Pelletier and Phillips all surprising some people around here. That defense is going to cover up a lot of potential mistakes over the season. Crazy deep.

Slo-mo-han is way too quiet to be captain, and odds are high he’s leaving as UFA next summer.

I can think of several good reasons.
Toffoli is a RW and Mangiapane is a LW.
The Mangiapane-Backlund-Coleman line was very effective when it was together.
Mangiapane proved he can create his own offense scoring 35 goals with 2nd line minutes and mid linemates, while Toffoli struggled to produce

If these three play together, Toffoli will be RW and Mangi will be LW.
I also don't think we're going to cap dump Lucic/Monahan. We'll sign Mangi/Kyli and that'll take us to the cap.
I think you try Toff as 1RW because if you can get a bounce-back out of him it makes everything gel. He was Montreal's leading scorer when they went to the SCF, so he has it in him.

If there is no trade or FA signing
Huberdeau - Lindholm - Monahan /Any situation/
Mangiapane - Dube - Toffoli /More O zone/
Pelletier - Backlund - Coleman /More D zone/
Lucic - Ruzicka - Lewis /Kill time/Energy/
- Rooney - Phillips
I hope they keep Dube at Centre and help him to become the puck carrying Centre which this team is really missing.
Main problem - No PP specialist and nobody can bring the puck in PP zone.
D
Hanifin - Andersson
Kylington - Tanev
Zadorov - Weegar
Valimaki -
I hope they are at least same as last year.
Main problem - Don't have a good PK-er D that can clear the front of the net.

I agree with that offensive unit, would switch up the D pairings to look like
Weegar-Tanev
Hanifin-Andersson
Kylington-Zadorov
Valimaki (can't be sent down without waivers)

Patrick Kane might be available. He's LW but how hard can RW be?

Lucic to Anaheim, Monahan for picks, Hanifin for Kyrou (or similar) and Kadri at a reasonable contract (5/6 years @ 7.5/8)
Huberdeau - Lindholm- UFA/Trade (Kyrou?)
Mangiapne - UFA/Trade (Kadri?)- Toffoli
Dube - Backlund - Coleman
Lewis - Ruzicka - Pelletier
Kylington - Tanev
Weegar - Andresson
Valamaki - Zadorov
Markstrom
Vlada
If Markstrom can bounce back from the playoff experience, we add 2 legit top 6 forwards (I know its not easy), we have one of the best D cores in the league, this team can do some damage.

If Monny could be traded for picks, he’d be long gone LOL.
Who is picking up that contract for value?

I think any of Toffoli/Coleman/Mangi could work at 1RW; give 'em all a shot and see what sticks. At the TDL it's an obvious target for upgrade
Hube-Lindholm-Toffoli
Mangi-Backlund-Coleman
Pelletier-Monahan-Dubé

Teams will be tighter than ever to get cap compliant, so I think there's going to be lots of players like him on waivers. We saw this with Kylington and nothing happened. If he can't make the Flames, they should send him down.

Based on what they've got right now, and knowing Monahan and/or Tanev could start on LTIR, here's a look at a possible minor tinkering of the Flames lines to start the season.

I don't think so. Much easier to take a chance on a guy who has 1 year left on his deal than anything over that. I could certainly see a team like Phoenix rolling the dice on him to see if a change of scenery can help him bounce back. Problem is I don't think Tre is going to trade him when his value is pennies on the dollar. I suspect he hopes he can regain some form and his value is better at the deadline.
