I could see him playing some unexpected important role in the final season, but yea he definitely was a late season kill off candidate in season 4.
Just rewatching the final two episodes of season 4.

Started watching this show finally. S1 was pretty good. But S2 is a huge letdown so far. The story is all over the place, Will’s out of body experiences storyline is going nowhere, the whole Dart thing with the lispy kid is eye rollingly stupid, eleven has done nothing in 5 episodes except complain about sitting in a cabin, Paul Riser is a good villain except he’s never on screen and we never get any details about his motivations. And don’t even get me started on the new angsty mullet kid that drives the trans am and his annoying sister.
David Harbour is pretty good tho.
It’s watchable but I’m finding myself trailing off in quite a few of these S2 episodes and reaching for my phone.

In retrospect season 2 wasn't too bad. It was just such a drop from the crazy-high bar set by the first. Both the second and third seasons felt a bit meandering and off the path, but with the benefit of how the story pays off in an incredible fourth season they feel much more essential.

Binged a few more and the season improved considerably right after I posted that, which was episode 5. Finally the story moved forward on multiple fronts and got interesting. The first 5 episodes should have been 1 episode, maybe 2.

S1 amazing
S2 much weaker than 1 but finished strong
S3 went for maximum silliness but was reasonably entertaining. Real mixed bag. Not great overall.
S4 complete dumpster fire. So, so bad.

Wow I found season 4 awesome. Season 2 was the only bad one for me.

Totally agreed. Season 4 has completely revitalized the series in preparation for the finale in season 5.

I dont know why, but for whatever reason I was fully anticipating Season 4 being the Finale.
But otherwise I agree, I think Season 2 was a letdown, Season 3 redeemed it significantly and Season 4 hit it out of the park.
Dont 'Game of Thrones' this series up Duffers!

It was season 8 of Game of Thrones or final season of Dexter bad. I can’t believe anyone thought any of that made any sense. The hilariously stupid Russia story, the nonsensical Vecma, the guitar battle with bats, the stupid villain “mystery” etc. There were like 4 different plot lines, each dumber and more non sensical than the last.
Perfect example of a show that actually became a parody of itself.

That's crazy talk. This series is f'n awesome, and the 4th season was the best one they've done yet. Outstanding television IMO.

I’m with Cecil on this. There were brilliant scenes in S4, but overall it was hammier than the world’s most famous hamster.

I think both.
They have gone over the top, it's certainly hammy, but I still enjoyed it.
I don't think it's award worthy brilliant television but sometimes it's ok to just enjoy something fun and silly for what it is.

IMO it's one of the all time great teenage family shows. There's just no way it could pull off it's popularity from teens to middle aged adults without being somewhat ham-fisted.

Season 2 was blah, and I pretty much hate watched season 3. I was going to give up after that but gave Season 4 a chance after part 1 was was getting a good response. I enjoyed Season 4 a lot and thought it was a great comeback season.

This is kind of how I view the show as well. I'll say i've pretty much enjoyed all 4 seasons, but was really impressed with season 4. I essentially watch and enjoy Stranger Things, the same way I enjoyed Goonies, Ghostbusters, etc. as a kid/young adult. Are they silly and unrealistic? Sure, but it's part of the charm. I view it the same as going on rides at Disneyland. it's not a high point in art, but it's a good time, and something a family can do together that's fun.

pedantic time, but there's a big difference between hammy and ham-fisted...if your show has to be one of those, it should be the first one.

My wife and I watched all 4 seasons and are now introducing our kids to them. I thought it might be too scary for the younger one, but we've only got 3 episodes left and they're obsessed. It's been a super fun family activity.
