Justin Williams agrees to terms with the Canes (1yr, $700k + $1.3 mil bonuses)
Pierre LeBrun @PierreVLeBrun
My understanding is that Williams has tentatively agreed to terms on a contract with the Hurricanes but nothing is signed yet. As Sara suggests, perhaps a signing and announcement Wednesday.

I think it's lame to take half a season off while your teammates battle for points in the standings, then just ride in for the new year waiting for playoffs. Don't care how old he may be, if he can't play a full season then it might be time to hang it up, he doesn't have much left to prove.

I have a hard time sharing this sentiment when:
a) he obviously still loves the game, and
b) he still wants to play and is physically capable, and
c) a team still wants to pay him
If he can still contribute and help win a cup, why not? The only loser is the guy that gives up his roster spot. Most teams can tolerate banishing a 13th forward for a guy who brings what Williams does in terms of big game experience, and he has an established presence with the franchise and the entire current roster. And the idea of any pro athlete having "nothing left to prove" falls flat. These guys are only able to achieve what they do because they are fierce competitors who would do anything to win as many times as they can.

He can sign after Dec 1 and still play that same season? Does that rule only apply to RFAs?

Not to mention even minimum salary in the NHL is many times more lucrative than the majority of us would make in a year. If I was an NHLer and sucked on the ice, but someone was willing to still pay me minimum salary you'd better believe I'd be all over it.
Someone on the internet saying a player should retire when you can continue to make millions is super lame.

For some reason I feel like a Conn Smythe should be worth more than 250k...

Mad? LOL. Where did you get that from in my post? No need to project onto me, it was only an opinion.
