The only member of the 2003 draft I'm interested in is Pavelski. Getzlaf too.
Certainly not Perry.

Hell no. Perry at best was a below average skater and plus he just returned from major knee surgery in January. I'm sure that's going to go over well going forward.
Have we forgot about the Neal signing? Neal at half his contract would have been considered a disappointment for last year and you want to give Perry $4M? Stay far away.

Totally get this. I feel he has enough history as a top tier player though to command a little more through his agent. You're right though, his recent downfall will be a pretty good counter argument for the team negotiating with his agent. Talking about it more, perhaps a 1 year deal might be what he ends up with on a prove it sort of deal.

I wouldn't mind seeing Perry signed to a 1 year 1 million dollar contract. It is a low risk, medium/high reward signing. If he can get us 15/20 goals playing on the third/fourth line, it gives us more depth scoring.

Cap hit for the buyout:
19/20 - $2.625 mil
20/21 - $6.625 mil
21/22 - $2 mil
22/23 - $2 mil

What a cap hit in 2 years. The buyout really hits hard in 2020/21 but is Troy Brouwer-esque the other years.

No interested. Maybe at league minimum but someone would give him more than that

At this stage of his career given his recent injuries will he even want to come back for league min?

If he retires does he keep the buyout salary? or because it was an under 35 contract, does he forfeit it?

Yes, he'll get paid on the buyout. He would only forfeit the money if he walked away from the contract (or there was a mutual termination).

I’d be open to a one year contract for him but no longer.

Wait, does this mean Anaheim could be interested in Neal?

Don't you mean Scorey Perry?
Seriously though, it might not be the worst on a 1 year deal. I'd be worried about not having enough room on the roster for development spots. I'd prefer the Flames to move Brodie and Frolik and go after someone better. Maybe signing Tkachuk won't allow that, in which case, someone like Perry might be a necessity, assuming he comes much cheaper than Frolik's current contract.

I would not wager heavily against it happening thou. Don't want it to because Perry is trash... but I could see it happening. Treliving decides he wants a pesty replacement for Garnet Hathaway, looks at pesty Corey Perry with his past glory, 118 games of playoff experience, and (presumably) low salary demands and thinks "that'll do".

Superstar players that are past their prime are rarely able (mentally and physically) to make a meaningful contribution while receiving a dramatically lower pay. Perry is done in NHL, I think. I don't see him going to Europe either. He's set for life, financially.

Edmonton would gladly take an unmotivated superstar past his prime because they would play the mcdavid can get him to 50 again angle, until he started playing and they'd realize he's about as good at scoring goals as Reider now.

Perry is awesome, too bad he is broken now. Having both him and Chucky on the team would be priceless.
