I feel like too much emphasis is on a RHS RW that we might overlook just a good RW in general.

What LHS rw is out there.
This one time where a very specific need has been discovered and openly admitting needs to be addressed.

And since those teams have middling records overall even with weaker schedules, their record over a larger sample size is a better indicator of their relative strength.

Flames strength of schedule has been one of the hardest in the NHL thus far...they have many of their Pacific games yet to be played.
I guess we will see how it shakes down

They have played the 20th hardest schedule to date. Still have weak schedule remaining though.

As pointed out, that was a legitimate excuse a couple months ago, not so much anymore. They have yet to take advantage of seemingly weaker teams.

LeBrun: Flames have interest in Toffoli (and other RHS top 6 forwards)

Actually, because they play in the Pacific, they have a generally easy schedule for the year.
While it true that the schedule to date has been harder than the remaining schedule, each segment was below average in how hard it has been /will be.

Well their record under Ward is actually really strong.
22GP: 14-7-1
So they have stepped things up lately even though they have suffered some frustrating loses since he took over.

Or...7-7-1 since the initial post firing run. Being concerned about the team slipping into mediocrity is justified. I understand that at the end of the season all playoff teams have had a run or two that was longer than average, but the recent below average play against the softest part of their schedule is reason for concern....especially when you consider the teams typical performance post all star break.

This. The slump/run before/after Peters cancel each other out.

The reason he does better in the playoffs is because the speed of the game picks up and the team around him is forced to play faster, which plays to his strength. And also because the refs put their whistle away, which allows Bennett to compete better.
I still think Bennett thrives on a fast team. He'd look great in Edmonton or Montreal or Toronto or Tampa or Colorado or Vegas

Hmm interesting...shifts to center, gets 2 goals...

And that's why we should've snagged him before he had a couple of those sort of games and perked up interest elsewhere.
I'm not a big fan of waiting until deadline day and letting the week leading up basically decide everything and then trying to outbid desperate teams in the final hours.
Sell, buy, retool, we need better RW skill regardless, and Toffoli fits that bill while being in a decent age range.

Yep. As long as he can be extended at a reasonable cap hit, I agree. There aren't any answers for RW coming from the farm, so that position needs to be filled whether it's for a playoff push or not.
If it can be done now for a reasonable price, that's good.

When the rumour about the Flames first having interest came out is when it should've been done.
When he was everyone's plan C and not doing a whole lot on the score sheet.
I don't know what Treliving is doing and I don't know what amazing other options are out there worth holding out for that don't require overspending. At least this one has a palatable price tag.
